What You’ll Do:
- Lead Payroll Operations:
- Manage the full payroll lifecycle for weekly, fortnightly cycles.
- Ensure employees are paid accurately, on time, and in full compliance with legislation.
- Handle complex payroll calculations including bonuses, commissions, and terminations.
- Compliance & Governance:
- Monitor legislative changes and implement updates in payroll practices.
- Ensuring compliance with Australian payroll legislation, awards, and agreements
- Ensure accurate payroll tax, STP submissions, and superannuation lodgements.
- Financial Reporting & Analytics:
- Prepare and deliver accurate payroll reports for finance, audit, and external stakeholders (e.g., ATO).
- Have knowledge of reconciliation of PAYG withheld tax liability, Superannuation liability account. Reconcile Employee Hero against Xero and STP data
- Support month-end and year-end financial processes, including reconciliations and accruals.
- Analyse payroll data to identify trends, discrepancies, and areas for cost optimisation.
- Systems & Process Improvement:
- Manage payroll systems and ensure data integrity through audits and troubleshooting.
- Collaborate with finance and IT to automate and streamline payroll processes.
- Evaluate system performance and recommend enhancements for greater efficiency.
- Audit & Risk Management:
- Conduct internal audits and payroll reconciliations to ensure data accuracy.
- Identify and resolve any discrepancies with urgency and accuracy.
- Maintain strict controls around payroll data and approvals.
- Stakeholder Collaboration:
- Partner with HR to ensure accurate inputs for onboarding, terminations, and status changes.
- Serve as the key payroll advisor to finance, HR, and senior leadership.
What We’re Looking For:
- Proven experience in payroll management or financial operations.
- Solid understanding of Australian payroll legislation, taxation, and compliance frameworks.
- Strong analytical and reconciliation skills; experience in financial reporting is a plus.
- Proficiency in payroll systems (e.g., Xero, Employee Hero or similar).
- Reconciliation skills and experience: PAYG, Super, Wages expense, payroll tax
- Excellent Excel skills and the ability to interpret complex financial data.
- A meticulous, proactive mindset with a drive for continuous improvement.
- Degree-qualified in finance, accounting, or a related discipline (desirable).
