Summary of Work Activities and Responsibilities:
The Assistant Director for Sports Program Development manages the day-to-day operations of the various sports academies under the University Athletics Office. The role is responsible for developing Grassroots Sports Programs for the Ateneo Grade School, Junior High School, and Senior High School varsity teams, while ensuring alignment with University policies and supporting the growth of athletic excellence.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
I. Athlete Programs and Services Management- Leads and monitors grassroots sports programs in Basic Education Schools to ensure student-athlete development and long-term talent pipelines
- Provides strategic direction to align grassroots programs with the mission, vision, and values of the UAO
- Oversees the needs of the Basic Education sports teams by coordinating with individual Sports Program Heads and Assistant Director for Operations to ensure alignment with University policies and athletic goals
- Coordinates with Sports Program Heads to select leagues and tournaments that contribute to grassroots development goals
- Monitors and evaluates team participation and performance to ensure competitions align with long-term development strategies
- Provides timely updates on competition outcomes for internal reporting and University communications
- Monitors and evaluates program effectiveness, recommending improvements to enhance operational efficiency and athlete development
- Gathers feedback from the Sports Program Heads and Coaches and prepares reports on team performance and athlete achievements for presentation to the Director
- Provides recommendations on facilities, resource allocation, and training schedules to enhance program outcomes
- Works with Sports Program Heads and Athletic Coordinators to establish policies and systems that strengthen the effectiveness and sustainability of Grassroots Sports Programs
- Collaborates with Sports Program Heads and Athletic Coordinators to strengthen student participation and encourage a culture of sports engagement
- Guides Sports Program Heads and Coaches to ensure training methods and player development strategies align with overall formation framework and University standards
- Regularly coaches Sports Program Heads and Coaches on the implementation of training programs
- Recommends development opportunities for Coaches and Sports Program Heads to further improve program implementation
- Provides feedback to the Director on performance and outputs of Coaches and Sports Program Heads
- Represents the Director in designated University functions, committees, and inter-unit athletics meetings
- Builds and maintains relationships with internal stakeholders (students and employees) and external partners (league organizers, sports governing bodies, alumni) to advance grassroots initiatives
IV. Performs other duties as may be assigned by the immediate supervisor or any authorized representative
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Sports Program Management: Understanding of athletic program operations, including competition scheduling and team logistics
- Athletic Policies and Compliance: Familiarity with league rules, university athletic policies, and relevant regulatory bodies
- Team Management Skills: Ability to set objectives and goals for a team; organize schedules, task people with assignments, and manage resources (people, funds, equipment, support, etc.)
- Interpersonal Skills: Ability to build rapport with others; can understand and work with people of various temperaments and levels
- Problem Solving and Decision-Making Skills: Ability to analyze problems and create appropriate solutions; makes good decisions and practice good judgment
- Project and Events Management: Skill in planning, organizing, and monitoring of projects
- Integrity and Ethical Conduct: Demonstrates fairness, transparency, and accountability in decision-making and management of University athletic programs
Education and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Sports Management, Physical Education, Management, or related field is required
- Master’s degree in Sports Management, Business Administration, or Organizational Leadership is an advantage
- At least five (5) years of progressive experience in athletics administration, sports program management, or operations management, preferably within an academic or sports institution
- Demonstrated experience in program development and stakeholder coordination (e.g., with coaches, sponsors, or governing bodies)
- Prior leadership or supervisory experience in a university or intercollegiate athletics setting is an advantage
