ACCOUNTING CONTROLLER | ONSITE | NIGHT SHIFT | START ASAP
We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Accounting Controller to serve as the operational backbone of our accounting function. This role is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of financial reporting while ensuring strong accounting controls across an inventory-heavy, multi-state, subscription-based business.

Key Responsibilities
Month-End Close & Financial Reporting- Own and manage the month-end close process and close calendar.
- Deliver accurate and timely financial statements and management reports.
- Ensure financial data is complete, accurate, and decision-ready for leadership.
- Perform and document all key account reconciliations, including:
- Bank accounts
- Credit cards
- Merchant processors (e.g., Stripe)
- Balance sheet accounts
- Maintain a clean and reliable general ledger within QuickBooks.
- Investigate and resolve discrepancies promptly.
- Manage inventory accounting processes, including:
- Cost of Goods Sold (COGS)
- Landed cost allocation
- Inventory valuation
- Shrinkage and spoilage tracking
- Ensure inventory records accurately reflect physical inventory counts.
- Oversee Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR) activities.
- Ensure timely vendor payments and accurate customer billing support.
- Review expense coding and maintain proper accounting controls.
- Establish and maintain documentation for accounting processes and controls.
- Support multi-state sales tax compliance and filing requirements.
- Monitor economic nexus thresholds and prepare filing support schedules.
- Manage payroll accounting mechanics, including:
- Journal entries
- Accruals
- Reconciliations
- Maintain an organized QuickBooks environment, chart of accounts, and accounting records.
- Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for recurring accounting tasks.
- Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for audits and financial reviews.
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
Success in this role will be measured by:
- Month-end close completed by the 5th business day each month
- Reconciliations completed accurately and on schedule
- Near-zero unexplained variances or reconciling items
- Inventory and COGS accuracy against physical inventory
- Timely support of sales tax filings across all nexus states
- Minimal to no audit or review adjustments
Qualifications
Required- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of accounting experience with ownership of the full accounting cycle and month-end close.
- Previous experience in a Controller, Assistant Controller, Senior Accountant, or similar role.
- Strong knowledge of US GAAP.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software; QuickBooks experience is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets.
- Excellent written English communication skills.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification.
- Experience in e-commerce, inventory-based businesses, food industry, or consumer packaged goods (CPG).
- Strong understanding of subscription-based revenue and deferred revenue accounting.
- Experience creating SOPs and scaling accounting processes.
- Additional QuickBooks expertise and system optimization experience.
