Freight Dispatcher / Logistics Operations Coordinator

Schedule: 5 Hours per Day | Monday to Friday

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced and highly organized Freight Dispatcher / Logistics Operations Coordinator to serve as an extension of our logistics operations team. This role is responsible for negotiating rates with carriers, assigning and coordinating loads, monitoring shipments, and ensuring the efficient movement of freight from pickup through delivery.

The ideal candidate is proactive, detail-oriented, and capable of making sound operational decisions with minimal supervision in a fast-paced logistics environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiate rates with carriers and brokers to secure competitive pricing and maximize margins.
  • Coordinate and assign loads to carriers and drivers based on availability, equipment, and operational requirements.
  • Monitor and track shipments from pickup through delivery, ensuring timely updates and proactive communication.
  • Conduct check calls and provide status updates, ETAs, and issue resolution for delayed or at-risk shipments.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, brokers, drivers, and customers.
  • Handle shipment documentation, including rate confirmations, load details, and proof of delivery (POD).
  • Resolve operational issues such as delays, missed appointments, detention, TONU, and other shipment exceptions.
  • Maintain accurate records and update the Transportation Management System (TMS) and internal trackers.
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to ensure customer expectations and service levels are met.
  • Identify opportunities to improve dispatch processes and operational efficiency.
  • Perform other logistics and dispatch-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in freight dispatching, logistics coordination, freight brokerage support, or transportation operations.
  • US Freight Brokerage or Logistics Experience is required.
  • Proven experience negotiating rates and managing carrier relationships.
  • Strong understanding of the freight lifecycle, from load booking through delivery and POD collection.
  • Experience handling load assignments, shipment tracking, and issue resolution.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make operational decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and logistics software platforms.
Preferred:
  • Hands-on experience with transportation management systems (TMS), preferably Descartes Aljex.
  • Experience using Descartes Aljex or a similar transportation management system (TMS) is highly preferred. Candidates with hands-on experience using comparable logistics platforms will be given priority consideration.
