Safety officer

About the role

The Safety Officer is responsible for implementing and monitoring occupational health and safety policies and procedures on exploration/mining sites. This role ensures compliance with government regulations, promotes a culture of safety, and minimizes workplace hazards to protect workers, equipment, and the environment.

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensures compliance with R.A. 11058 (Occupational Safety and Health Standards) and other Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and DENR-MGB standards (DAO 20•0-98) safety policies, procedures, and regulations
• Prepare and submit safety reports, incident reports, and documentation as required.
• Investigate accidents, incidents, and near-misses; recommend preventive measures.
• Conduct safety orientations and toolbox meetings for workers and staff.
• Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
• Monitor high-risk activities, confined space entry, lifting operations, and excavation works.
• Coordinate with project engineers, supervisors, and subcontractors regarding safety concerns.
• Maintain safety records, permits, and compliance documentation.
• Assist in emergency preparedness, including drills and response procedures.
• Ensure all safety signages and barricades are properly installed and maintained.

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
• Training: Must be trained by DOLE on OSH standards (e.g., BOSH, COSH).
• Experience: 1-3 years of experience in safety management, preferably within the mining industry.
• Skills: Knowledge of Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) or local mining regulations, strong investigation skills, and capability to work in high-risk environments.
