DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct nursing care for patients, primarily appropriate supportive care and administration of chemotherapy, blood components, fluid and electrolyte replacements, and other related oncologic therapies as prescribed.
- Perform continuous and systematic assessment and implement timely nursing actions in response to assessments and observations of signs and symptoms and patient’s condition required.
- Review pre-treatment diagnostic results and timely report to physicians.
- Provide education on prescribed treatment regimen and side effects of the therapy to patients, family, and significant others
- Provide patient with information about the treatment plan, medications, home care needs, follow-up appointments and referral to community resources
- Perform venipunctures, access implanted ports, and maintain central line catheters.
- Ensure proper functioning and clean equipment is used; reports to Unit Supervisor any malfunctioning equipment
- Safely and properly administer medication and treatment as directed by the physician.
- Maintains accurate and updated documentation in all patient records of nursing actions taken, medications and treatment given with responses.
- Maintain patient’s privacy and confidentiality of information and records at all times
- Demonstrate understanding and follows the standards/guidelines related to the principles of safe handling and administration of chemotherapy and other oncologic treatment.
- Follow established policies, procedures and objectives including safety, environmental and/or infection control standards
- Reports to the Department Manager any incidents and untoward occurrences related to patient, staff, and other center visitors
- Maintain positive professional interpersonal relationship with patients and their families, co-workers, and other members of the health care team.
- Establish collaborative relationship with colleagues and other members of the health team
- Assists in orientation of new personnel
- Work effectively as part of the unit’s team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the unit’s ability to meet its goals and objectives
- Follow established departmental policies, procedures and objectives, continuous quality improvement objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards
- Adhere to practices in accordance with the nursing law and other relevant legislation
- Perform all responsibilities and assignments as delegated by the unit head and supervisor
- Attend all mandatory training and maintain regulatory licenses required
- Prepares patient records and charts for consultation and treatment
- Performs administrative task and other job-related duties assigned
