The Head Nurse – Hemodialysis Center is responsible for overseeing the overall nursing operations, clinical management, and quality patient care services within the dialysis facility of B. Rother Renal Care. The Head Nurse ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and patient-centered hemodialysis treatment in compliance with Department of Health (DOH) regulations, PhilHealth requirements, infection control standards, and established clinical protocols.
The Head Nurse supervises and leads dialysis nurses, dialysis technicians, and support staff while coordinating with nephrologists and other healthcare professionals to maintain high standards of clinical care, patient safety, and operational efficiency.The role is also responsible for staff development, quality assurance, policy implementation, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives within the dialysis center.
Key Responsibilities
Nursing Operations and Clinical Supervision- Supervise daily operations of the hemodialysis center to ensure efficient workflow and quality patient care.
- Monitor and evaluate nursing staff performance, clinical practices, and compliance with facility protocols.
- Ensure proper staffing schedules and adequate manpower coverage during dialysis operations.
- Provide clinical leadership, guidance, and support to dialysis nurses and technicians.
- Ensure all dialysis treatments are performed according to physician orders and approved treatment plans.
- Assist management in implementing operational improvements and clinical standards.
- Ensure comprehensive patient assessments are conducted before, during, and after dialysis treatment.
- Oversee management of high-risk and complicated dialysis cases.
- Monitor patient outcomes and ensure prompt intervention during emergencies or treatment complications.
- Promote safe, compassionate, and patient-centered nursing care.
- Address patient concerns, complaints, and clinical issues appropriately and professionally.
- Supervise dialysis nurses, technicians, and support personnel within the center.
- Conduct orientation, coaching, and continuous clinical training for staff members.
- Monitor staff competency in dialysis procedures, infection control, vascular access care, and emergency response.
- Assist in staff performance evaluations and recommend corrective actions when necessary.

- Ensure emergency equipment and supplies are functional and readily available.
- Ensure accurate and complete patient documentation and dialysis treatment records.
- Monitor compliance with DOH, PhilHealth, and facility documentation standards.
- Prepare and review reports related to nursing operations, patient care, incidents, and quality assurance activities.
- Ensure compliance with facility policies, clinical protocols, and healthcare regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement and patient safety programs of the dialysis center.
- Monitor clinical indicators and patient outcomes to identify areas for improvement.
- Investigate incidents, treatment complications, and patient safety concerns.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions when necessary to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
- Coordinate with nephrologists, dietitians, dialysis technicians, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals regarding patient management.
- Facilitate communication between nursing staff and the medical team.
- Participate in clinical meetings, case discussions, and operational planning activities.
- Monitor inventory levels of dialysis supplies, medications, and consumables.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of medical supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate supply requests and report shortages or inventory concerns to management promptly.
- Ensure staff readiness for dialysis-related emergencies and disaster situations.
- Supervise implementation of emergency response protocols and patient safety procedures.
- Ensure staff maintain valid Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and emergency response competency.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) graduate.
- Must be a Registered Nurse (RN) with a valid PRC License.
- Completed a DOH-recognized Hemodialysis Training Program.
- Preferably with at least 5 years of experience in dialysis nursing, including supervisory or leadership experience.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is an advantage.
- Strong leadership, organizational, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent clinical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledgeable in DOH and PhilHealth dialysis regulations and standards.
- Physically and mentally capable of handling dialysis center operations and patient care responsibilities.
