Key responsibilities
- Prepare, review and maintain comprehensive financial statements and reports in accordance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements
- Record and reconcile financial transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper classification of all accounting entries
- Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing and payment authorisations
- Conduct regular bank reconciliations and verify cash positions to ensure financial records are current and accurate
- Assist in the preparation of budgets and monitor actual expenditures against approved allocations
- Maintain detailed financial records and supporting documentation in compliance with institutional policies and legislative requirements
- Liaise with internal departments and external stakeholders to resolve accounting discrepancies and queries
- Ensure compliance with relevant financial regulations, audit requirements and internal control procedures
- Support the finance team in month-end and year-end closing processes
- Contribute to the improvement of accounting processes and internal controls through process recommendations
- Bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Finance, or a related discipline, with a recognised professional accounting qualification (such as CPA or equivalent)
- Minimum 5 years of experience in financial accounting and reporting within a corporate, institutional or government environment
- Strong proficiency in accounting software and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems
- Advanced knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and financial reporting standards
- Demonstrated expertise in accounts reconciliation, financial statement preparation and audit support
- Excellent analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong understanding of internal controls and compliance requirements
- Ability to work independently whilst collaborating effectively with team members across departments
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex financial information clearly
- Experience in government or institutional accounting environments is highly desirable
