A speech therapist, also known as a speech-language pathologist, plays a vital role in helping individuals enhance their communication and swallowing abilities. They assess, diagnose, and treat speech disorders such as difficulty in pronunciation, stuttering, and voice problems, as well as language challenges involving understanding and expressing thoughts.Speech therapists work closely with children with developmental delays, autism, or learning disabilities, and also assist adults recovering from conditions like stroke or brain injury. In addition, they help manage feeding and swallowing difficulties to ensure safety and proper nutrition.
Beyond direct therapy, they guide families and caregivers by providing strategies and exercises to support progress at home, making them essential partners in a patient’s overall development and quality of life.
Qualifications/Requirements
Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) Qualifications & Skills- Bachelor’s degree in Speech- Language Pathology from CHED- accredited university or an equivalent recognized program.
- Must be registered and licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with a valid PRC license.
- Experience working children with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder (ASD), speech and language delays, or learning disabilities.
- Strong skills in assessment, treatment planning, documentation, and collaboration within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Compassionate, patient, and committed to provide child-centered and family-focused care.
- Additional training or certifications in feeding therapy, oral motor therapy, or augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) is an advantage.

- Utilize various therapeutic techniques and tools to enhance patient outcomes.
- Conduct comprehensive speech and language assessments to identify communication, articulation, fluency, voice, and feeding/swallowing difficulties.
- Provide one-on-one and group therapy sessions that foster communication, comprehension, and expressive language skills through play-based and functional activities.
