Speech and Language Therapy is concerned with all types of communication problems including delayed language, stammering, aphasia, articulation and voice disorders, dysphagia, fluency disorders and hearing loss. They also work with children with such diagnoses like autism, cerebral palsy, and global developmental delays.
A Speech and Language Pathologist (SLP) is the rehabilitation team member whose main role is to supervise and carry out a program designed to correct or to compensate for defect in speech and hearing. The SLP works in a wide range of setting, including hospitals, nursing homes, research laboratories, rehabilitation centers, schools, and private clinics.
The roles of a pediatric SLP include training children who stutter to speak more fluently, assisting children with voice disorders to improve voice quality, including those with disorders of volume, pitch, and quality; selecting and developing alternative communication systems for children with severe speech problems and teaching articulation and proper production of speech sounds to children with special needs.
Qualifications/Requirements
Requirements:
- Minimum Bachelor's Degree in Speech Language Pathology
- Licensed Speech Language Pathologist (Newly licensed professionals are welcome to apply!)
- Compassionate and client-centered approach to care
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team
- Responsible, organized, and reliable
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Willingness to learn and receive supervision/mentorship
