The Abattoir Butcher is responsible for slaughtering of pigs and preparing meat products in accordance with company procedures, food safety regulations, animal welfare standards, and occupational health and safety requirements. The role ensures high-quality meat processing while maintaining cleanliness, efficiency, and compliance with applicable regulations.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Perform slaughtering operations in accordance with humane animal handling and welfare standards.
  2. Inspect meat for quality and report any abnormalities or signs of contamination.
  3. Ensure meat products meet company quality standards and customer specifications.
  4. Maintain strict compliance with food safety, sanitation, and hygiene requirements.
  5. Clean, sanitize, and maintain work areas, tools, and processing equipment.
  6. Handle, store, and label meat products properly to maintain freshness and traceability.
  7. Follow workplace health and safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  8. Assist with receiving, weighing, recording, and storing livestock and processed meat products as required.
  9. Minimize waste and maximize product yield through proper cutting and processing techniques.
  10. Report equipment malfunctions, safety hazards, or quality concerns to the supervisor.
  11. Perform other duties assigned by the Operations Manager.

Reporting Relationship
  1. Reports to: Operations Manager
  2. Coordinates with: Meat Inspectors, Quality Assurance Personnel, Processing Staff, Warehouse Personnel, and other production team members
Qualifications/Requirements
  1. High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in meat processing or butchery is an advantage.
  2. Previous experience in an abattoir, meat processing plant, or butcher shop is preferred.
  3. Knowledge of meat cutting techniques, food safety, and sanitation standards.
  4. Physically fit and able to work in cold, wet, and fast-paced processing environments.
  5. Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends or holidays, if required.
