About the Role
This is a fully remote role where you will support Australian clients with their tax compliance and bookkeeping requirements. You will work closely with our Australian-based team to deliver accurate, timely, and high-quality outputs. This role is suited to an early career accountant who is developing technical capability, gaining exposure to Australian tax legislation, and building confidence in client service.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Taxation- Prepare and lodge Australian income tax returns (individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships) in accordance with Australian tax legislation.
- Prepare and review Business Activity Statements (BAS) / GST, FBT returns and other statutory lodgments
- Conduct basic tax research and apply relevant ATO rulings and guidance
- Assist with preparation of financial statements for companies, trusts, partnerships, and sole traders
- Perform bookkeeping tasks, including reconciliations, journal entries, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll processing where required
- Maintain financial records in Xero, MYOB, and QuickBooks
- Assist with year-end accounts and working papers
- Support compliance deadlines and reporting requirements
- Identify process improvements and efficiencies
- Liaise with clients to obtain required information and clarify queries.
- Maintain accurate client records and follow up on outstanding items.
- Provide professional and friendly service while developing strong client relationships.
- Work closely with senior accountants and managers to deliver high quality outcomes.
- Participate in internal training, technical updates, and professional development programs.
- Minimum 5+ years’ experience in tax and/or bookkeeping
- Strong experience with Australian tax compliance (preferred)
- Experience preparing GST/BAS returns
- Proficient in cloud accounting software (Xero preferred)
- Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
- Excellent English communication skills
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment
- CPA/CA qualification (or working towards) is highly regarded
