Project Engineer (Commercial Plumbing)

South Melbourne Plumbing Co are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Project Engineer to join our commercial plumbing company. This part time role is crucial in supporting our operations by handling estimating, hydraulic design and drafting, procurement of materials, AutoCAD set-outs for our Leica Total Station, and drafting ‘As-Built’ drawings.

The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, experience in commercial plumbing projects, and the ability to work remotely while coordinating effectively with our on-site team in Australia.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Estimating & Costing
  • Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial plumbing projects.
  • Analyze drawings, specifications, and project scopes to determine material and labor costs.
  • Assist in bid preparation, tender submissions, and pricing strategies.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain competitive pricing.
  1. Hydraulic Design & Drafting
  • Develop and review hydraulic services designs in accordance with Australian Standards and building codes.
  • Create and modify plumbing layouts, schematics, and system designs using AutoCAD.
  • Conduct hydraulic calculations and pressure loss assessments.
  • Ensure designs comply with project specifications, council requirements, and best practices.
  1. Procurement of Materials
  • Identify and source required materials, fittings, and equipment for projects.
  • Liaise with suppliers to obtain quotes and lead time estimates.
  • Prepare purchase orders and track material deliveries to ensure project timelines are met.
  • Work closely with the site team to manage inventory and procurement schedules.
  1. AutoCAD Set Out for Leica Total Station
  • Prepare precise AutoCAD set-out drawings for on-site use with Leica Total Station.
  • Ensure site layout drawings are accurate and align with project specifications.
  • Collaborate with field teams to ensure successful on-site implementation of set-out plans.
  1. ‘As-Built’ Drawings & Documentation
  • Prepare detailed ‘As-Built’ drawings for completed projects.
  • Update drawings based on site modifications and final installations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and submit finalized drawings in compliance with project requirements.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in commercial plumbing, hydraulic engineering, or similar roles.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Plumbing Codes & Standards.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Revit (preferred).
  • Experience with estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, SimPRO, Cubit, or equivalent).
  • Understanding of hydraulic calculations and system design principles.
  • Experience in procurement and supply chain management for construction projects.
  • Familiarity with Leica Total Station and survey set-outs (preferred).
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently in a remote setting.
