The Mason & Tiles Setter is responsible for laying bricks, blocks, stones, and tiles in the construction and finishing of walls, floors, partitions, and other structures. This role requires skilled craftsmanship to ensure that masonry and tile work meets structural integrity, design specifications, and aesthetic standards.

The Mason & Tiles Setter works with various materials including concrete blocks, bricks, natural or synthetic tiles, and mortar, and is adept at preparing surfaces, mixing materials, and accurately placing masonry units or tiles.

Qualifications/Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare construction sites by measuring and marking layout lines according to building plans and specifications.
  • Mix mortar, cement, grout, and other bonding agents to the correct consistency.
  • Lay bricks, concrete blocks, stones, and tiles in straight lines or specified patterns with precision.
  • Cut bricks, blocks, or tiles to fit edges and corners using hand tools or power cutters.
  • Align and level masonry work to ensure uniformity and structural stability.
  • Install tiles on floors, walls, countertops, and other surfaces ensuring proper adhesion and finish.
  • Apply grout and sealants between tiles to provide waterproofing and finish.
  • Repair and replace damaged masonry or tile work as needed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work area in a clean and safe condition.
  • Collaborate with other construction trades to complete projects on schedule.
  • Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred but not required.
  • Completion of vocational or technical training in masonry, bricklaying, or tile setting is highly advantageous.
  • NC II or higher in Masonry, Tile Setting, or related TESDA certifications (or equivalent).
  • At least 2 years of experience in masonry and tile installation work.

Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of masonry materials, tools, and techniques.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, blueprints, and specifications.
  • Good hand-eye coordination, manual dexterity, and physical stamina.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently with attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and ability to work in compliance with them.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy materials, climb ladders, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Willingness to work as part of a team and follow instructions from supervisors.
