Senior QA Engineer - EasyCrypto
About the Role
EasyDefi Technologies Pty Ltd (EDT) builds and maintains EasyCrypto (https://crypto.easyequities.co.za) — the Purple Group’s crypto investment platform, delivered as a service to EasyEquities (First World Trader Pty Ltd), which holds the FSCA FSP licence.EDT is a fast-moving, commercially ambitious team operating in a regulated environment.
This is a senior, permanent, ring-fenced role. You will be EDT’s dedicated QA owner — the person responsible not just for testing features, but for building the test architecture that does not yet exist and laying the foundation for AI-assisted QA tooling.This is not a traditional QA role; it is a build role with a long mandate.
What makes this role unique?
This is a dedicated role supporting only the EasyCrypto platform. Unlike shared QA roles, you'll have end-to-end ownership of quality engineering for a single product, allowing you to build deep product knowledge and long-term automation capability.

EDT’s target is monthly deployments on a two-week release cycle. The role immediately owns the QA sign-off process for all features in the current deployment queue, including:
- ZARU treasury management (already built, awaiting QA)
- Price Impact margin feature (built, end-to-end validation required)
- Minor accounts fix
- Additional crypto deposit support
- EC Token bundle listing
- Test architecture — medium-term mandate
The EasyCrypto stack was not originally built with automated testing in mind. There are currently no unit test hooks, no sandboxed integration doubles, and no automated regression framework. You will own the full journey of building this infrastructure from the ground up:
- Introduce unit test hooks into the existing codebase
- Build sandboxed integration doubles for Binance and Luno (Fireblocks testnet already exists)
- Establish an automated regression framework
- Define and document quality gates and governance standards
- AI QA tooling — longer-term goal
Human review and sign-off remain mandatory for all money-movement and other business-critical workflows.
What We’re Looking For
Must-have- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Diploma, or related field
- 5+ years QA experience in a financial services, fintech, or regulated technology environment
- Strong manual testing capability — able to own end-to-end regression, UAT, and production sign-off
- Coding — You must be proficient in writing and maintaining automated test scripts using TypeScript, JavaScript, or Python.
- Tech Stack — Experience in the following preferred QA tech stack is highly desirable, including Cypress and Playwright for UI automation, Postman for API testing, Robot Framework for test automation, Jira for defect and work management, Testmo for test case management, BrowserStack for cross-browser and device testing, and CI/CD integration tools. Experience with equivalent frameworks and tools will also be considered.
- Hands-on experience building or significantly improving test architecture from a low base
- Experience testing against third-party API integrations (exchange APIs, payment gateways, or similar)
- Comfortable working in a production-testing environment where sandboxed alternatives are not always available
- Strong documentation discipline — quality gates, test cases, regression frameworks
- ISTQB Foundation Certification or equivalent is a plus.
- Experience in crypto, digital assets, or blockchain-adjacent platforms
- Familiarity with exchange integrations (Binance, Luno, Fireblocks, or similar)
- Experience with AI-assisted QA tooling or test automation frameworks
- Background in compliance-sensitive environments (FSCA, FCA, MAS, or equivalent)
- Experience in a startup or scale-up environment where you have had to build process, not just follow it
- Platform: EasyCrypto — crypto investment platform serving retail clients under EasyEquities’ FSCA licence
- Integrations: Binance (exchange), Luno (exchange/conversion), Fireblocks (custody — testnet available)
- Compliance: Travel Rule (Sumsub/Notabene), liveness/KYC (RelyComply/Sumsub)
- Payments: ZARU (ZAR-pegged stablecoin), MPESA (Kenya), crypto deposit/withdrawal flows
- Team: small, senior, remote-first; Slack-based communication; two-week sprint cadence
Cross-functional Collaboration
As the dedication QA owner for EasyCrypto, you will work closely with Product, Engineering, DevOps, and Security/Compliance teams to ensure quality is built into every stage of the delivery lifecycle. This includes participating in backlog refinement, defining acceptance criteria, validating production readiness, improving release quality, and continuously enhancing the platform’s overall testability and automation strategy
Reporting & Governance
You will report to Jason Camiller, QA Automation Lead, with a strong dotted line to Antony Nkombyane, Head of QA. Day-to-day activities comes from the EDT product team. You will not be allocated to work outside EDT without explicit agreement from both reporting lines.
This is a deliberate governance structure — EDT is a service entity with its own delivery obligations, and this role exists to protect and restore EDT’s deployment cadence. Your success is measured by EDT’s delivery, not the group’s broader QA throughput.
Success in the First 12 Months
QA Delivery & Infrastructure- Monthly deployment cadence restored within 60 days of joining
- Full regression suite covering all major EasyCrypto user flows within 6 months
- Sandboxed Binance and Luno integration doubles operational within 9 months
- AI QA tooling integrated and running on stable test framework within 12 months
- Zero production incidents attributable to insufficient QA coverage
- Achieve and maintain 80%+ automated test coverage across critical user journeys and business-critical workflows.
- Reduce automated regression execution time to enable rapid feedback and support an efficient CI/CD pipeline.
- Maintain automated smoke test reliability of greater than 95% across supported environments.
- Maintain test automation flakiness below 3%, ensuring stable, repeatable, and trusted test execution.
- Design and maintain automation that is scalable, reusable, and easy to support, following established QA engineering standards and best practices.
- Continuously improve the automation suite to reduce manual testing effort, increase release confidence, and minimise escaped defects.
