Job Description:
We are seeking a driven Carrier Representative to manage freight from quote to delivery (“cradle-to-grave”). This role is responsible for quoting carriers sourcing carriers, posting and covering loads, negotiating rates, and ensuring successful execution of shipments.
You will work closely with customers and carriers to quote freight, book loads, and manage shipments in real time using load boards and TMS systems.
Key Responsibilities- Provide accurate and competitive freight quotes based on market conditions
- Post loads on load boards (DAT, Truckstop, etc.) and proactively source capacity
- Book loads by negotiating rates and securing reliable carriers
- Manage shipments from dispatch through delivery (“cradle-to-grave”)
- Build and maintain relationships with box truck and sprinter van carriers
- Track shipments and provide real-time updates to customers
- Resolve issues quickly (delays, re-covers, service failures)
- Ensure all loads meet compliance requirements (insurance, authority, safety)
- Enter and manage load details in the TMS (Aljex, McLeod, etc.)
- Quoting inbound freight opportunities from customers
- Posting loads and calling carriers to cover freight quickly
- Negotiating rates to protect margin while winning freight
- Booking trucks and dispatching drivers
- Monitoring loads in transit and handling exceptions
- Communicating updates to customers and internal teams
- Load coverage speed (time to book truck)
- Margin per load
- Quote-to-book ratio
- On-time pickup and delivery
- Carrier utilization and retention
Qualification and requirements:
Key Skills- Strong negotiation and phone skills (high call volume)
- Ability to cover loads quickly under pressure
- Strong understanding of freight pricing and market trends
- Organized and detail-oriented in a fast-paced environment
- Team player with strong communication skills
- 1–3+ years in freight brokerage or carrier sales
- Hands-on experience with:
- Load boards (DAT, Truckstop)
- Posting and covering loads
- Quoting and booking freight
- Experience managing loads cradle-to-grave
- Familiarity with expedited, STL, or final mile freight
- Competitive base salary + commission/bonus
- High-volume freight environment with strong earning potential
- Established carrier network and tools to succeed
- Opportunity to grow into senior broker or operations leadership
