IT Operations Manager
Job description
The IT Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the organization’s IT infrastructure, ensuring high availability, performance, security, and reliability of systems and services.
This role manages day-to-day IT operations, leads IT Support teams, and ensures alignment of IT services with business objectives.
Key Responsibilities- IT Operations Management
Oversee daily IT operations including servers, networks, databases, and cloud environments
Ensure system uptime, performance, and availability (SLA compliance)
Monitor and manage IT incidents, problems, and service requests- Infrastructure & Systems Management
Manage on-premise and cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or hybrid setups)
Oversee system installations, upgrades, patching, and maintenance
Ensure capacity planning and scalability of systems- Service Delivery & ITIL Processes
Implement and manage ITIL processes (Incident, Problem, Change, Release Management)
Ensure timely resolution of issues and continuous service improvement
Maintain IT service catalog and SLAs- Team Leadership
Lead and mentor IT operations staff (system admins, network engineers, DBAs, support teams)
Assign tasks, evaluate performance, and conduct training
Foster a culture of accountability and continuous improvement- Security & Compliance
Ensure IT systems comply with security policies and regulatory requirements
Work with security teams to manage vulnerabilities, backups, and disaster recovery
Enforce data protection and access control policies- Monitoring & Performance Optimization
Implement monitoring tools (e.g., Nagios)
Analyze system performance and recommend optimizations
Manage capacity and resource utilization- Vendor & Stakeholder Management
Manage third-party vendors, contracts, and service providers
Coordinate with internal stakeholders for IT requirements
Report IT performance metrics to senior management- Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
Develop and maintain DR and BCP plans
Conduct regular testing and ensure readiness
Ensure backup systems are functioning and recoverable
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field
Master’s degree is a plus
Experience
10+ years in IT operations, infrastructure, or systems management
At least 3–5 years in a leadership or managerial role
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge of:
Operating systems (Linux/Windows)
Networking (TCP/IP, firewalls, VPNs)
Databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle)
Cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Experience with monitoring and automation tools
Familiarity with DevOps practices is a plus
