Data Analyst Supervisor
The Supervisor also plays a crucial role in influencing decision-making across the organization by generating ad hoc reports using SQL and Excel, developing automated MIDAS reports, and managing long-term research-based projects using Excel Dashboards and Power Query, which often support the larger organizational goals.
In terms of client relations, the Data Analyst Supervisor is responsible for managing team members’ initiatives on creating slide decks that compare client performance to industry standards. This involves identifying trends and areas for enhancement within the clients’ data.Collaboration with Executive Leaders and Corporate Account Executives is carried out to articulate the company’s value proposition and competitive advantage.
The role requires a broad understanding of various business aspects, which helps in turning data into useful insights for different groups. The Supervisor will also manage and assign tasks independently via an internal Report Request Queue, each task having a turnaround time set by the business.Adherence of the Supervisor and their team members to these turnaround times and maintenance of the quality standards established by the Analytics leadership are the baseline for performance evaluation. Part of the role is to ensure the accuracy of existing query logic, reporting procedures, and code structures, conduct quality checks, and assist in standardizing queries.
A significant aspect of the role is dedicated to training and documentation, including providing training for Level I and Level II Analysts, maintaining up-to-date training materials, and managing the team’s documentation repository.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Training and Development
- Manage Data Analysts of the Ad hoc Analytics team.
- Mentor team members in business processes and technical areas as appropriate.
- Lead training sessions for Level I and Level II Analysts and data outreach projects for business group leadership.
- Utilize reporting experience to provide directions to Level I and Level II Analysts in weekly stand-up meetings.
- Maintain training materials up-to-date and manage the team’s documentation repository.
- Develop innovative methods to enhance the presentation of data and advise peers on presentation strategy.
- Data Management and Reporting
- Develop, review, and revise SQL queries using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, and translate ad hoc reports into automated solutions using SSRS.
- Develop reusable stored procedures and maintain a consistent report deployment structure based on departmental standards.
- Oversee and manage the process of assessing the quality of existing stored procedures and ad hoc reporting logic, ensuring that the functionality of the code aligns with its intended purpose.
- Generate development standards concerning SQL querying and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
- Create, optimize, and maintain reports using advanced Excel functionalities, and design digital dashboards, executive information systems, and reports.
- Gather, prep, and load data into the warehouse and other repositories for future reporting.
- Presentation and Research
- Develop and deliver client presentations that effectively communicate the value proposition of our data-driven solutions, using data visualization techniques to present complex data in an understandable, compelling format. Present results to key stakeholders and assist in data-driven decision-making.
- Lead research projects that explore innovative ways to use data for business insights, working closely with different teams to understand their needs and tailor the research accordingly.
- Leverage cross-business expertise to provide comprehensive data solutions, understanding the unique needs and challenges of different business units and tailoring data analysis and reporting to meet these needs.
- Project and Request Management
- Manage report assignments for the Data Analytics Team through the Report Request Queue, and proactively communicate with team members and requestors regarding field changes, new strategies, or report roadblocks.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Act as a comprehensive advisor to the business regarding analytic capabilities and reporting options.
- Collaborate with business units to refine requirements for enhancements and new report requests.
- Contribute to root cause analysis based on workflow issues/inefficiencies, present trends in data, and devise potential solutions.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
- Experience supervising a team and providing successful results of the services/outcomes measured is preferred or comparable experience.
- Expertise in SQL and SSRS, including the ability to write complex SELECT statements, expert-level experience with JOINs, WHERE clauses, common syntax, and temporary tables, correct use of conditional filters, nested subqueries, efficient use of indexes, and query optimization.
- 4+ years of experience in SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) development and Visual Studio.
- Quality Assurance (QA) experience is preferred.
- Experience in data warehousing is preferred.
- Capable of working with key stakeholders and executive leaders to evaluate potential risks and translate business requirements into layman’s terms.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including the ability to write complex formulas, use VLOOKUPs, create pivot tables, and create dashboards.
- Experience in training end users and Data Analyst I & II team members.
- Ability to communicate ideas in both technical and user-friendly language.
