The Chef de Partie is responsible for preparing and presenting high-quality food within their assigned kitchen station. This role oversees food preparation, ensures consistency with recipes and presentation standards, maintains food safety and sanitation, and supports the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager in daily kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation
  • Prepare, cook, and plate menu items according to standardized recipes and quality standards.
  • Manage an assigned kitchen section (e.g., hot kitchen, cold kitchen, pastry, or brunch station).
  • Ensure food is prepared and served on time during service periods.
  • Monitor portion sizes and food presentation to maintain consistency.
  • Assist in developing new menu items and seasonal specials.
Kitchen Operations
  • Set up and organize the assigned station before service.
  • Ensure all ingredients are properly prepared (mise en place) before each shift.
  • Monitor stock levels and communicate replenishment needs.
  • Minimize food waste through proper storage, portion control, and inventory management.
  • Maintain equipment and report maintenance issues promptly.
Food Safety & Sanitation
  • Follow food safety, hygiene, and sanitation standards at all times.
  • Ensure proper food storage, labeling, rotation (FIFO), and temperature control.
  • Keep the kitchen and workstation clean and organized throughout the shift.
  • Comply with local health regulations and company policies.
Teamwork
  • Work closely with other kitchen staff to ensure smooth service.
  • Assist with training and mentoring junior cooks and kitchen assistants.
  • Support the Head Chef or Kitchen Manager in maintaining kitchen efficiency.
  • Communicate effectively with front-of-house staff regarding orders and special requests.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent; culinary training or a culinary degree is preferred.
  • At least 2–3 years of kitchen experience, preferably in a café, restaurant, or hotel.
  • Experience working in a specific kitchen section or station.
  • Knowledge of food preparation techniques and kitchen equipment.
  • Food safety certification is an advantage.
