The Training Specialist (Accounting Expert) is responsible for designing, delivering, and continuously improving accounting training programs for the Accounting Department. This role ensures employees are proficient in core accounting processes, reconciliations, controls, and month-end close activities, while adhering to company policies, accounting standards, and client-specific requirements.

The role acts as a subject matter expert (SME), bridging accounting operations, compliance, and training to ensure accuracy, consistency, and readiness across the team.

Key Responsibilities

Training & Development
  • Develop structured training curricula, SOPs, and reference materials for Accounting Department workflows.
  • Conduct onboarding, refresher, and advanced accounting training sessions.
  • Translate accounting concepts, policies, and system workflows into practical, role-specific instruction.
  • Evaluate trainee performance through assessments, work reviews, and readiness certifications.
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and corrective training based on quality and audit findings.

Accounting Operations Training Scope

Train employees on the following end-to-end accounting processes:

  • Full Accounts Payable (AP) invoice processing, including:
  • Vendor creation and maintenance
  • Item creation and item mapping
  • GL account assignment and validation
  • Inventory reconciliation and variance analysis
  • Invoice audit review, validation, and approval workflows
  • Daily Sales Summary (DSS) verification and approval, including:
  • Cash deposits
  • Credit card transactions
  • Gift cards
  • Customer deposits
  • Detailed vendor statement reconciliation
  • ACH and check journal entries for matched bank activity
  • AP payment matching, clearing, and exception handling
  • Third-party delivery service posting and reconciliation
  • Retrieval and upload of bank transaction activity (bank activities)
  • Bank and credit card account reconciliations
  • Payroll journal entry preparation and posting
  • Month-end accounting tasks, including:
  • GL reconciliations
  • Preparation of financial statements
  • Supporting schedules and related financial reports
Controls, Compliance & Quality
  • Reinforce internal controls, segregation of duties, and audit-ready documentation standards.
  • Ensure training aligns with GAAP, company policies, and client requirements.
  • Partner with Accounting Leadership and QA teams to identify recurring issues and root causes.
  • Update training materials to reflect process changes, system updates, and compliance requirements.
  • Support internal and external audits by preparing teams for compliance expectations.
Systems & Tools
  • Train staff on accounting systems and ERP platforms used by the company.
  • R365 (Restaurant365) certification is an advantage but not required.
  • Ensure accurate system usage and data integrity across accounting workflows.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5-8 years of hands-on accounting experience, preferably in shared services, BPO, or multi-entity environments.
  • Prior experience in training, mentoring, or acting as an accounting SME is strongly preferred.
  • Solid understanding of AP, bank reconciliation, payroll accounting, and month-end close.
  • Experience working with high-volume transactions and reconciliation-heavy environments.
