About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Accounting Business Analyst to join our growing healthcare practice. In this pivotal role, you will bridge the gap between financial data and strategic decision-making, delivering actionable insights through sophisticated Microsoft Power BI dashboards and reports.You will work closely with practice leadership to drive financial performance, streamline operations, and support the continued growth of our dental services business.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Analysis & Reporting- Prepare, analyze, and present monthly management accounts, P&L statements, cash flow reports, and variance analyses
- Develop and maintain financial models to support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning cycles
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to dental and medical practice operations (e.g., chair utilization, patient revenue per visit, debtor days)
- Identify financial trends, risks, and opportunities, and present findings to senior leadership with clear recommendations
- Design, build, and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports that provide real-time visibility into practice financial and operational performance
- Connect Power BI to accounting platforms (Xero, MYOB) and practice management systems to create seamless, automated data pipelines
- Develop DAX measures, calculated columns, and data models within Power BI to support complex analytical requirements
- Train and support practice staff in the use of Power BI reporting tools
- Have experience in managing day-to-day accounting operations within Xero and/or MYOB, including general ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, and chart of accounts management
- Administer integrations between Xero/MYOB and third-party systems including practice management software (e.g., Core Practice, Dental4Web, Mediasuite, Cliniko)
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy across all accounting platforms and downstream reports
- Partner with practice managers and clinical leads to understand operational drivers and translate them into financial insights
- Identify and implement process improvements to enhance the efficiency of financial reporting workflows
- Assist with investment appraisals, new service line analysis, and equipment procurement decisions
- Support compliance requirements including payroll tax, workers compensation reporting, and ATO obligations
Qualifications & Experience
Essential- Excellent written and verbal communication skills – able to present financial data to non-financial stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Analytics, or a related discipline
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a business analyst, management accountant, or finance analyst role
- Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Power BI, including data modelling, DAX, and dashboard design
- Hands-on experience with Xero and/or MYOB in a professional accounting environment
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (pivot tables, Power Query, complex formulas)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail
- Experience in the dental, medical, or allied health industry (including familiarity with Medicare/DVA billing, item numbers, and practice revenue structures)
- CPA or CA qualification (or working towards)
- Experience with practice management software such as Core Practice, Dental4Web, Cliniko, Best Practice, or Mediasuite
- Knowledge of healthcare-specific financial metrics and benchmarking
- Familiarity with Power Automate, SharePoint, or Microsoft 365 ecosystem
- Reporting/analytics tools: Fathom
