Payroll Support Advisor - Fixed Term Contract

What’s the role

The payroll support advisor will be responsible for executing business assurance processes and ensuring sustainable SOX/FCM compliance and controls relevant to global and local processes. Execution of Local HR Processes, in line with existing policies and procedures, assuring high quality data management in Shell People, as well as documentation, including on-going support to employees and Line Managers.

This position will work closely with areas of Americas Payroll Operations in a supportive team environment to meet the various deadlines for processing and reporting of payroll and tax results, partnering with HR Operations, and special projects as required.

This is also a full-time position with set work hour requirements and required overtime during certain peak periods.

What you’ll be doing

The Payroll Support Advisor is responsible for the end‑to‑end management of payroll‑related cases in line with established ways of working:

  • Logging, tracking, and resolving payroll queries using Salesforce, including ticket creation, updates, and ensuring timely case closure.
  • Managing WIPS, proactively keeping customers informed of the status of open cases.
  • Owning and being accountable for end‑to‑end (E2E) payroll processes.
  • Effectively handing off cases to other HR Operations teams as required.
  • Building and maintaining strong working relationships with third‑party service providers.
  • Meeting established KPIs and SLAs to ensure high‑quality service delivery.
  • Partnering effectively with internal US business stakeholders and external parties and escalating complex issues to Senior Payroll Analysts and Tier 3 teams when necessary.
  • Liaising with HR Advice, employees, and line managers to resolve cases efficiently.
  • Ensuring strict adherence to financial controls and data privacy regulations to mitigate business risk in a high‑value payroll environment and prevent data breaches.
  • Contributing to the overall strategy and direction of HR Operations.
  • Supporting effective problem resolution, change management, and communication initiatives.
  • Managing multiple priorities and competing demands in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Actively promoting a culture of innovation, Enterprise First behaviours, and continuous improvement.
  • Sharing best practices within the team and participating in service improvement initiatives to enhance overall delivery.
  • Working and communicating effectively within a global, virtual organization, engaging key stakeholders.
  • Conducting audits, reviewing relevant audit reports, and raising risks or concerns as required.
What you bring
  • At least 3 years of relevant experience handling HR Payroll
  • Strong communication skills in English (good command, both written & oral)
  • Previous experience in Shared Service/Business Operations, HR Payroll Service environment or relevant experience in a multinational environment is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Commitment to continuous improvement
  • Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, and strong SAP knowledge
  • Strong organization skills and multitask skills
  • Customer focus in a culturally diverse environment and adhering to BSE principles.
  • Constant & demanding workload
  • Building a level of HR knowledge (e.g. policy and procedures etc) as required for successful execution of the role
  • Strong SAP knowledge will need to be built quickly.
  • Need to be familiar with and have awareness of geographical HR policies, needed to support their population (ie Global Local knowledge).
  • High level of ownership, resilience, empowerment and discretion to manage and resolve issues raised by employees, line managers, local HR in a quick and effective way.
