Position Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced US Tax Payroll SME/Expert to manage all aspects of payroll tax compliance, reporting, and process optimization. This role requires deep expertise in federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations, advanced knowledge of payroll systems, and the ability to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance across all payroll functions.
Key Responsibilities- Oversee end-to-end payroll tax processes, including calculation, reporting, and remittance at federal, state, and local levels.
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations, state tax agencies, and local jurisdictions.
- Manage payroll tax audits, respond to inquiries, and resolve discrepancies with tax authorities.
- Lead payroll tax strategy, including process improvements, automation, and risk mitigation.
- Collaborate with HR, Finance, and Compliance teams to align payroll tax practices with organizational policies.
- Maintain and update payroll tax configurations in systems such as SAP HR, ADP, or equivalent platforms.
- Prepare and file quarterly and annual payroll tax returns (Forms 941, W-2, W-3, etc.).
- Provide expert guidance on complex payroll tax issues, including multi-state taxation, expatriate payroll, and fringe benefits.
- Monitor legislative changes and proactively implement updates to payroll tax processes.
- Experience: 5+ years of progressive payroll tax experience, with at least 3 years in a senior/expert role.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead teams, mentor staff, and foster collaboration across departments.
- Project Management Skills: Demonstrated success in managing payroll-related projects, implementing system upgrades, and driving process improvements.
- Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in payroll systems (SAP HR, ADP, Oracle, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge: In-depth understanding of US payroll tax laws, reporting requirements, and compliance standards.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and capacity to manage complex tax scenarios.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills; ability to explain technical tax matters clearly.
- Experience with payroll tax audits and correspondence with federal/state agencies.
- Proven track record of implementing payroll tax process improvements.
- Ability to work independently while leading cross-functional initiatives.
Hybrid Role ideally 3x per week but candidate must be open to report more than 3x when required/requested.
