An Oiler Bargeman (often referred to as a Marine Oiler, Motorman, or Tankerman-Oiler) is an unlicensed member of the engineering department who works on tugboats, barges, and other maritime vessels. They are responsible for the maintenance, lubrication, and operation of engines and mechanical equipment, as well as assisting with cargo handling operations.
Qualifications/Requirements- At least High School or Vocational Course Graduate in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Technology or related technical fields
- Basic Seamanship or Marine Auxiliary Machinery Operation Valid Oiler License issued by the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA)
- Valid Basic Safety Training (BST) and, Standard of Training, Certifications, and Watchkeeping Seafarers (STCW)
- Preferably with updated Seafarer's Identification and Record Book (SIRB)
- Experience as a Bargeman (Oiler) on barges, tugboats, or other marine vessels
- Experienced in engine room operations, lubrication, and routine maintenance of main and auxiliary engines
