Senior Manager – Communications & Instructional Design
About the Role
Optum is looking for a Senior Manager – Communications & Instructional Design to lead strategic internal communications and provide senior‑level learning and instructional design leadership. This role plays a critical part in supporting enterprise initiatives, organizational change, and large‑scale business programs.
In the near term, the role will primarily focus on communications leadership, partnering closely with Change and Learning teams to ensure clarity, readiness, and adoption across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Communications Leadership- Lead strategic internal communications for enterprise and client initiatives
- Develop clear, consistent messaging to support change and transformation efforts
- Partner with Change and Learning leaders to drive understanding and adoption
- Manage communication plans, channels, timing, and approvals
- Create and review communication materials such as announcements, FAQs, presentations, and leadership updates
- Ensure messaging aligns with Optum brand and tone standards
- Measure communication effectiveness and identify improvement opportunities
- Provide senior‑level guidance on instructional design and learning solutions
- Set standards and best practices for learning design and delivery
- Review and elevate the quality of learning content produced by teams
- Translate complex business needs into effective learning strategies
- Manage and mentor instructional design team members
- Plan and allocate resources to meet business needs
- Adjust priorities to support changing business demands
- Influence decisions that impact multiple employee groups
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- Typically 5+ years of experience in communications, learning, or instructional design roles
- Proven experience leading strategic internal communications and change initiatives
- Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills
- Experience partnering with business, Change, and Learning leaders
- Strong project management and stakeholder management skills
- Experience mentoring or leading teams
