Cost Accounting Lead

Reporting to the Finance Manager – Commercial, the Cost Accounting Lead will play a pivotal role in ensuring the financial health of the company by overseeing the cost accounting functions, including the validation of supplier invoices, managing costing rules, and ensuring compliance with company policies.This role will lead the cost accounting team and will be responsible for analysing key costing data to support strategic decision-making. The Cost Accounting Lead will work in close partnership with the Finance Manager, Commercial, and the broader Commercial Finance team to drive success in the business operations.
This role will embody a continuous improvement mindset, always looking for ways to increase efficiency, accuracy, and commercial benefit.

What you will be doing:
- Lead and mentor the cost accounting team: Provide guidance, support, and development opportunities to team members, ensuring high performance and professional growth.
- Foster a collaborative environment: Encourage teamwork and open communication within the cost accounting team and across departments.
- Communicate clearly and effectively: Listen, understand, and adapt to others to influence positive outcomes.
- Promote knowledge sharing: Model and encourage the sharing of knowledge and information within the team.
- Oversee invoice validation and processing: Ensure that all supplier invoices are accurate, supporting data is validated against cost accruals, and invoices comply with company policies before processing them for payment.
- Resolve disputes: Collaborate with the operations team to address and resolve any disputes related to invoices.
- Analyse financial data: Compile and analyse financial data to determine the optimum cost structure of key activities of the business.
- Prepare and present reports: Prepare detailed reports on cost findings and variances and present them to senior management, suggesting opportunities to improve cost efficiency within the company.
- Support a shared purpose and direction: Align with the company’s core values and mission and contribute to achieving them.
- Drive continuous improvement: Regularly review and improve processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy, always seeking ways to increase commercial benefits.
