The Janitorial Supervisor oversees the cleaning and maintenance operations of a facility to ensure that all areas meet cleanliness, sanitation, and safety standards. This role is responsible for supervising janitorial staff, assigning duties, monitoring performance, inspecting completed work, and managing supplies and equipment.

The Janitorial Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining a clean, safe, and professional environment, coordinating with management and other departments to address maintenance needs and special cleaning requests.

Qualifications/Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and coordinate daily work activities of janitorial staff, including cleaners, utility workers, and custodians.
  • Assign cleaning tasks and ensure work schedules are followed efficiently.
  • Inspect work areas regularly to ensure cleanliness standards are met and correct deficiencies.
  • Provide training and guidance to new and existing janitorial staff on proper cleaning techniques, safety practices, and use of equipment.
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment, and coordinate procurement when needed.
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including proper handling of chemicals and use of PPE.
  • Respond to emergency cleaning situations, such as spills, accidents, or urgent sanitation issues.
  • Coordinate deep cleaning projects, floor maintenance, and other periodic services.
  • Prepare and submit reports on staff performance, maintenance issues, and supply usage.
  • Communicate and coordinate with building managers, tenants, or other departments regarding special cleaning requests or complaints.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Additional vocational training or courses in housekeeping or sanitation is an advantage.
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in janitorial work, with at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Knowledge or certification in OSHA standards, Basic Occupational Safety and Health (BOSH), or Chemical Handling Safety.

Requirements:

  • Strong understanding of cleaning methods, materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Ability to supervise and motivate a team, manage time, and delegate tasks effectively.
  • Knowledge of safety practices in handling cleaning agents and maintaining facilities.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Physically fit and capable of standing, walking, and lifting for extended periods.
  • Willingness to work night shifts, weekends, or irregular hours depending on facility needs.
  • Basic computer skills (for reports, scheduling, inventory tracking) is a plus.
