Paralegal Specialist (Reliever)
Responsible for five main activities, namely:
(1) Perform legal research, reports, and presentations.
(2) Draft correspondence and legal documents.
(3) Maintain and update Legal Services database and other tracking programs.
(4) Conduct field/site investigation and government liaising; and
(5) Perform office administration for the Legal Services Division.
Duties and responsibilities
Legal Research and Presentation:
- Conduct legal research and gather relevant information on various, present, and possible future legal issues that the company may encounter.
- Research surrounding facts, information, as well as applicable laws, jurisprudence, circulars, and rules relevant to issues being handled by the department.
- Gather, analyze, and prepare written reports, as may be assigned.
- Prepare reports and presentations, as may be assigned or required.
- Review relevant documents for due diligence investigations and risk assessments and prepare initial output thereon.
Draft Correspondence and Legal Documents:
- Draft and prepare pleadings, complaints, affidavits, position papers, legal briefs, and legal memoranda as may be required.
- Draft letters and other company correspondence.
- Prepare minutes of meetings.
- Draft any document, written communication as required.
Maintaining Legal Services Database and Other Tracking Programs:
- Lead the other non-lawyers/staff support in maintaining an updated and complete database of Legal Services files, such as executed contracts, toll rate petitions, company filings, and other company correspondences, for perusal of the Legal Services division.
- Lead the other non-lawyers/staff support in monitoring information gathered from partner government agencies and the Right-Of-Way (ROW) team concerning ROW acquisition matters.
- Lead the other non-lawyers/staff support in maintaining an updated and complete set of applications and programs for tracking of contracts reviewed by Legal Services, ROW acquisition status, and similar documents.
Field Investigation and Government Liaising Stakeholder Management:
- Conduct on-ground investigation and interview team members and/or leaders regarding ROW acquisition, and other possible legal issues that may require special attention to avoid project delays.
- Coordinate project status and updates with partner government agencies and stakeholders.
- Assist other departments in coordinating the licensing needs and other requirements of the company, with partner government agencies and stakeholders.
- Request, file, and monitor different forms, and documents with different government agencies and stakeholders.
- Liaise with partner government agencies and other stakeholders to help achieve the company’s target and goals, including to monitor and update requests made with said agencies and stakeholders.
- Coordinate other tasks with partner government agencies and other stakeholders, as may be required.
Others:
- Guide and lead the other non-lawyers/staff support in filing of office related documents such as Cash Advance Forms, Liquidation Reports, etc.
- Guide other non-lawyers/staff in the performance of their respective tasks and functions.
- Maintain and organize reference files.
- Arrange meetings and schedules for the department.
- Performs other duties and related tasks, as assigned.
- 6 Months Contract as a Reliever
- Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree; A degree in Bachelor of Laws is an advantage.
- Specialized knowledge: Must have a good knowledge and understanding of Philippine laws and jurisprudence.
- Skills (including any technical or interpersonal skills): Excellent Time Management Skills; Strong Prioritization and Organization Skills; Exceptional Communication (oral and written) in drafting high-value legal documentation, which must be clear, unambiguous, concise, and conclusive, leaving no room for misinterpretation or manipulation; Presentation Skills; Technical Skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.
- Abilities: Ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines; Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures; Ability to work as a team member and also independently
- Other characteristics: Strong attention to detail; proactive in problem solving and getting issues resolved; takes initiative for proper and timely action in all respects; Maintains professionalism at all times; Well-motivated and has an initiative to do work; Trustworthy; Ability to work with minimal to zero supervision; Resourceful; Ability to anticipate contingencies concerning the nature of the assigned work.
- Experience: 1-2 years of paralegal work or related experience (work in legal industry is an advantage)
