About the Role:
We are looking for a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to manage day-to-day financial transactions and ensure accurate, timely, and compliant recordkeeping. The ideal candidate will not only know how to use accounting software but will also understand how bookkeeping activities tie into the broader business operations and financial health of the company.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions, including Accounts Payable (AP) and Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations
- Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and GST reports
- Process payroll in compliance with ATO and Fair Work regulations
- Ensure all transactions are coded correctly in the General Ledger
- Generate monthly reports (e.g., P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) for management or accountant review
- Communicate with clients, accountants, and regulatory agencies as needed
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and audit processes
- Ensure compliance with ATO guidelines, tax deadlines, and business reporting obligations
Expectations & Work Ethic:
- This role requires more than just data entry: you must have a working knowledge of how accounting systems function and how they support business operations.
- You are expected to understand the why behind each entry—not just what to input—so that records are accurate, compliant, and meaningful to decision-makers.
- If you are not comfortable interpreting financial flows or understanding how business operations impact bookkeeping, this may not be the right fit.
- You must be highly detail-oriented, thorough, and organized—with a strong ability to follow processes and ensure financial accuracy at all times.
Qualifications & Skills:
- Proven bookkeeping experience (preferably supporting Australian businesses)
- Proficiency in Xero, MYOB, or QuickBooks Online
- Strong understanding of GST, BAS, superannuation, and payroll compliance
- Familiarity with Fair Work and ATO guidelines
- Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Certificate IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping preferred
- BAS Agent registration is a plus
Working Hours:
Flexible schedule aligned with AEST/AEDT, with availability for check-ins or client meetings as needed.
