Job Summary
The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily accounting operations of the company, ensuring accurate and timely recording of financial transactions. The role focuses on supervising routine accounting activities, checking the work of accounting staff, and supporting the Finance Controller in maintaining compliance, internal controls, and financial accuracy, particularly within a construction industry setting.
Duties and Responsibilities
Daily Accounting Operations- Supervise day-to-day accounting activities, including:
- Recording of sales, collections, disbursements, and journal entries
- Monitoring accounts payable and accounts receivable
- Proper filing and documentation of accounting records
- Ensure all transactions are accurately recorded and supported by complete documentation.
- Review and verify the work of the Accounting Assistant for accuracy and completeness.
- Assign daily tasks and monitor workload to ensure deadlines are met.
- Provide guidance and on-the-job coaching to accounting staff.
- Coordinate closely with the Finance Assistant on cash-related and finance-related transactions.
- Monitor project-related expenses and ensure proper cost classification per project or site.
- Track supplier billings, subcontractor payments, and project-related payables.
- Assist in monitoring project costs against budgets and approved requests.
- Prepare and review:
- Bank reconciliations
- Schedules of payables and receivables
- Monthly expense summaries
- Assist the Finance Controller in preparing monthly financial reports.
- Identify discrepancies and recommend corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting procedures, and internal controls.
- Assist in preparing documents for audit, tax filings, and government reportorial requirements.
- Ensure timely submission of required accounting reports.
- Provide accurate accounting data to support management decision-making.
- Assist in process improvements to strengthen accounting controls and efficiency.
- Perform other accounting-related tasks as may be assigned by the Finance Controller.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy or any related course.
- At least 3–5 years of accounting experience, preferably in a construction or project-based company.
- Prior experience in supervising or reviewing accounting work is an advantage.
- Knowledge of basic accounting principles, bookkeeping, and financial reporting.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and basic accounting systems.
- Detail-oriented, organized, and able to handle multiple deadlines.
