Job Description:

The Business Intelligence Analyst is a business-facing data role responsible for turning company data into clear, trusted insights that support better decisions across the organization. This role works across functions to build, improve, and explain reporting solutions, with primary responsibility for Power BI modeling, report development, and reporting usability.

This person partners with stakeholders to understand what they are trying to see, why current reporting may not be meeting the need, and how to create practical, trusted solutions using existing data. The role also supports the transition of reporting from a legacy backend to a new Microsoft Fabric-based environment.

The purpose of this role is to make company data more usable, understandable, and trustworthy for end users across the business. The Business Intelligence Analyst acts as a practical reporting partner who helps teams move from unclear requests, disconnected spreadsheets, or mismatched totals to reliable reporting that supports real work.

This role is expected to deliver fast, accurate reporting solutions using standard Power BI modeling and report-building skills, while developing broader capability over time in SQL, ETL support, and modern data platform practices.

Key Responsibilities:

The Business Intelligence Analyst serves as a cross-functional reporting partner for teams across the business, owning report development, data explanation, and reporting reliability end to end.

Power BI Reporting, Modeling, and Business Partnership
  • Build, maintain, and improve Power BI dashboards and reports using existing data sources.
  • Work directly with stakeholders to understand reporting needs, pain points, and desired views of the data.
  • Translate business questions into practical reporting solutions that are clear, maintainable, and useful.
  • Improve report usability, layout, and logic so stakeholders can find and use the right information more easily.
  • Support a wide range of teams and reporting needs across the organization.
Data Trust, Validation, and Explainability
  • Investigate mismatched totals, conflicting reports, and unclear metrics to determine root cause.
  • Establish, maintain, and reinforce trust in reporting logic, definitions, and outputs.Explain where numbers come from and help business users understand how to interpret them.
  • Resolve data and reporting discrepancies through a combination of analysis, logic review, and coordination with upstream data owners as needed.
  • Help reduce dependence on manual workarounds by improving consistency and reliability in reporting.
Reporting Modernization and Fabric Transition
  • Support the migration of reporting assets from legacy backend systems to a Microsoft Fabric-based backend.
  • Rebuild or adapt reports as needed to align with new data structures and sources.
  • Help validate migrated reporting to ensure continuity, accuracy, and user confidence.
  • Contribute to the long-term improvement of the reporting environment as the company modernizes its data platform.
Spreadsheet Automation and Operational Reporting Support
  • Identify opportunities to replace static spreadsheets with live or more automated reporting solutions.
  • Support business users who know the outcome they need but may not know the best reporting approach.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Some experience with SQL and relational or warehouse-based data environments.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Fabric, Fabric lakehouse concepts, or modern cloud-based reporting environments.
  • Exposure to Python in data extraction, ETL, or reporting-related workflows.
  • Experience helping teams move from manual spreadsheet reporting to live BI reporting.
  • Experience supporting data quality, reporting consistency, or metric definition efforts.

Non-negotiable skills & requirements:

  • Strong hands-on Power BI modeling and report-building skills.
  • Strong Excel skills for practical reporting, analysis, and support of business users.
  • Demonstrated ability to build clear, accurate, and well-structured reports from existing data.
  • Strong analytical thinking and attention to detail.
  • Ability to investigate reporting issues and identify likely causes of discrepancies.
  • Strong communication skills, especially with non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborative working style and willingness to support users who may not know exactly what they need.
  • Willingness to learn new technical areas, including SQL, ETL support, Fabric, and AI interaction with BI/data workflows.
