Job Brief

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented CAD Draftsperson / Technical Documentation Officer to support a busy Australian building consultancy specialising in remedial construction, waterproofing, building defects, quality assurance inspections and expert witness reporting.

Working closely with building consultants, engineers, designers and remedial specialists, this role will assist in developing remedial designs from concept stage through to approximately 80% completion, allowing our senior design team to undertake final technical review and project sign-off.

In addition to drafting responsibilities, the successful candidate will assist with the preparation of technical reports, defect schedules, scopes of work and project documentation using company templates and systems.

This role is ideally suited to a technically minded professional with experience in construction, engineering or architecture who enjoys both design and technical documentation.

• Remedial Design Development: Prepare and develop remedial construction, waterproofing and building defect drawings from concept sketches, notes, photographs, mark-ups and design instructions.
• Design Coordination: Assist with coordination of architectural, structural, civil and waterproofing design requirements.
• Report Preparation: Compile inspection notes, photographs, schedules and supporting documentation into company report templates.
• Quotation Preparation: Compile initial fee proposals from templates.
• Defect Schedules: Assist with compilation of defect schedules, remediation scopes of work and technical appendices.
• Document Management: Maintain project records, drawing registers and revision tracking.
• Automated System Preparation: Assist project teams with compiling Fastfield and Jotform systems prior to inspections.
• Technical Drafting: Prepare accurate CAD drawings based on instructions and specifications provided by engineers and designers.
• Design Support: Assist with the preparation, revision, and updating of design documentation and technical drawings throughout various project stages.
• Drawing Documentation: Maintain organised drawing files, revisions, and project documentation to ensure effective version control and accessibility.
• Team Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, designers, and project stakeholders to ensure drawings meet project requirements and delivery schedules.
• Quality Assurance: Review drawings for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with project standards before submission.
• Drawing Updates: Incorporate feedback and revisions promptly to ensure documentation remains current and aligned with project changes.

• Demonstrated experience in construction, engineering, architecture, remedial building works or related industries.
• Ability to interpret construction drawings, engineering details and technical specifications.
• Experience preparing technical reports, schedules or project documentation.
• Strong understanding of Australian construction terminology and documentation practices.
• Experience working with remedial projects, waterproofing, structural repairs or building defect rectification will be highly regarded
• Proven experience using CAD software in a professional environment.
• Demonstrated ability to produce accurate and high-quality technical drawings.
• Previous experience within the construction, engineering, architecture, or a related industry is preferred.
• Willingness to complete a practical CAD assessment during the recruitment process to demonstrate technical capability.
• Strong attention to detail with a methodical and analytical approach to drafting work.
• Strong verbal and written English communication skills aligned with Australian professional standards.
• Ability to follow established drafting standards and technical instructions accurately.
• Reliable internet connection and a professional home office environment suitable for remote work.
