Sr. Data Analyst
The Senior Data Analyst is responsible for driving the development of advanced data-driven solutions that directly support organizational decision-making and client success. This role involves generating ad hoc and automated reports using SQL, Excel, and Power Query, as well as developing dashboards and optimized reporting procedures to ensure accuracy, scalability, and efficiency.
Beyond reporting, the Senior Data Analyst plays a strategic role in analyzing trends, benchmarking client performance against industry standards, and delivering actionable insights through presentations and visualizations. The position requires collaboration with executive leadership, account teams, and stakeholders to articulate business value and identify opportunities for improvement.
A key responsibility of this role is ensuring the integrity of data, reporting procedures, and code structures through rigorous quality checks and process standardization. The Senior Data Analyst also serves as a mentor and trainer to junior analysts, while maintaining documentation and contributing to the continuous improvement of the analytics function.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Training and Development
- Lead and facilitate training sessions for level I and II analysts, providing mentorship, guidance, and best practices in analytics, reporting, and presentation.
- Maintain and continuously improve training materials and the team’s documentation repository.
- Share expertise and innovative approaches to enhance data visualization and presentation strategies.
- Data Management and Reporting
- Design, develop, and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and automated reporting solutions (SSRS, Excel, Power Query, dashboards).
- Ensure accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of reporting processes through regular code reviews, quality checks, and adherence to departmental standards.
- Gather, transform, and load data into warehouses and repositories to support reporting and analytics needs.
- Create executive dashboards and advanced visualizations that support strategic decision-making.
- Presentation and Research
- Develop and deliver clear, compelling client and stakeholder presentations that translate complex data into actionable insights.
- Lead research initiatives exploring innovative ways to leverage data for business growth and process optimization.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to tailor analysis and reporting to the specific needs of different business units.
- Project and Request Management
- Independently manage requests through the report request queue, ensuring timely and high-quality delivery.
- Assign and monitor reporting tasks for the analytics team when needed, ensuring balanced workload distribution.
- Proactively communicate with stakeholders on project status, changes, and potential roadblocks.
- Communication and Collaboration
- Serve as a trusted advisor on data capabilities, reporting options, and analytic solutions.
- Collaborate closely with business leaders to refine requirements and design enhancements.
- Contribute to root cause analyses, identify workflow inefficiencies, and recommend data-driven improvements.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field (Master’s degree a plus).
- 4+ years of professional experience in data analysis and reporting, with strong expertise in SQL and SSRS (query optimization, stored procedures, subqueries, indexes).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (complex formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP, dashboards, Power Query).
- Experience with data warehousing, data modeling, and QA testing preferred.
- Proven ability to translate business requirements into technical solutions and communicate findings in clear, user-friendly language.
- Strong presentation skills with experience delivering insights to stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Demonstrated leadership in training, mentoring, and guiding junior analysts.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communicator with strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects independently in a fast-paced environment while ensuring accuracy and quality.
