Overall purpose, duties and responsibilities of the role:
The General Accounting Specialist supports the General Accounting Manager in managing the General Accounting team’s day to day tasks, ensuring accuracy in the recording and reporting of financial data and transactions. The role focuses on the execution of specific accounting functions, such as accounts payable and disbursements, accounts receivable, and fixed asset accounting, among others. Key responsibilities would include the following:
- Support the management and maintenance of the Company’s general ledger by:
- Ensuring that all financial transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger;
- Preparing or reviewing journal entries generated by the system, ensuring accuracy with accounting standards and proper documentation;
- Assist in the maintenance and reconciliation of general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy of financial data and transactions.
- Execute transactions covered by the accounts payable and disbursement processes which includes:
- Insurance-related payments;
- Invoice processing;
- Payments to vendors;
- Employee reimbursements, cash advances, and liquidations;
- Corporate credit card transactions;
- Related party transactions; and
- Preparation and monitoring of aging reports
- Ensure timely and full compliance of tax-related matters on disbursements (e.g. application of withholding taxes, preparation and releasing of BIR Form No. 2307, etc.)
- Perform accounts receivable functions, ensuring efficient collections and monitoring aging reports for non-premium related receivables.
- Support the fixed asset accounting process, including asset tracking, depreciation schedules, and compliance with accounting standards.
- Ensure that bank reconciliations are completed in a timely and accurate manner, identifying opportunities for automation and process improvements.
- Provide support for month-end and year-end closing processes by ensuring timely completion of closing activities and assisting in the preparation of financial reports or supporting schedules.
- Provide support during external audits and regulatory examinations by preparing necessary reports and documentation.
- Support the General Accounting Manager in managing relationships with banks and financial institutions, including credit facility monitoring and payment/collection streamlining.
- Review and implement internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with company policies, accounting regulations, accounting processes, and audit requirements.
- Support the General Accounting team’s goal for process improvement by:
- Identifying opportunities to improve accounting processes and procedures to increase efficiency and accuracy; and
- Executing process improvements, ensuring adherence to best practices.
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
§ University degree, with professional qualification in Finance and/or accounting, must be a CPA
§ 5+ years’ relevant working experience in auditing, accounting and/or financial reporting, preferably with insurance industry experience
§ Details-oriented, organized and self- motivated team player
§ Adequate knowledge with PFRS, IFRS, taxation and insurance regulatory requirements
§ Experience with ERP systems (preferably with SAP ERP experience) and process automation in accounting
§ Strong analytical and MS Office skills
