Job Description:
The Accounts Officer will primarily focus on reconciliations, bookkeeping, and supporting the finance team in maintaining accurate financial records. The role will also provide backup support to the Accounts Payable function when required.
Duties and Responsibilities
Reconciliations & Bookkeeping (Primary Focus):
- Perform daily bank reconciliations, including cash, EFTPOS, and transfers, ensuring correct allocation.
- Maintain the accuracy of the general ledger and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Reconcile technician cash daily; create clearing accounts in MYOB.
- Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset schedule.
- Verify and correct financial statements, ledgers, and accounts as required.
- Prepare profit and loss account sheets and support monthly reporting.
- Oversee petty cash accounts and ensure all outgoings are recorded accurately.
- Manage EFTPOS machine-related enquiries and maintenance.
Accounts Payable (Secondary Focus / Backup):
- Enter and upload invoices into MYOB Advanced for approval and payment.
- Facilitate supplier and subcontractor payment runs, ensuring correct approvals are in place.
- Finalise end-of-month creditors’ reconciliations and reporting.
- Respond to internal and external supplier queries regarding invoicing and payments.
- Reconcile accounts payable transactions ensuring GST is captured correctly.
- Research and resolve invoice discrepancies and issues.
- Ensure accurate record-keeping, filing, and compliance with AP processes.
Other Duties:
- Assist with ad hoc customer invoicing and upload payments to the bank.
- Liaise with internal and external stakeholders to provide accounting support.
- Perform general office-related finance tasks such as ordering stationery and managing office mail.
- Any other duties as directed by management.
- Experience in high-volume invoice processing.
- Strong organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Clear and professional written and verbal communication.
- Analytical mindset with problem-solving ability.
Non-negotiable skills & requirements:
- Qualification in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
- Proven experience in bank reconciliations.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and accounts payable processes.
- Experience using MYOB Advanced.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with both internal and external partners
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar accounting or accounts payable role.
- Strong working knowledge of Australian GST.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- An organised and methodical approach to tasks
- Sound ability to prioritise work
- Ability to work full-time on-site (no work from home option).
