Qualifications

Skill Requirements:

• 1 to 2 years minimum experience in software development or equivalent internship/project experience
• Foundational programming skills. Git required. Exposure to Ruby/Ruby on Rails and React JS desirable, or to similar web frameworks (e.g. Django, Laravel, Vue, Angular).
• Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools (e.g. Claude Code), with the judgement to apply them effectively. Able to critically evaluate AIgenerated output and recognise when not to rely on it.
• Some exposure to development within an enterprise software platform, through study, internships or early career experience.
• Some exposure to Public Cloud (Amazon Web Services) preferred.
• Excellent planning, communication and problem-solving skills.

Qualifications:

• A relevant degree qualification in Software Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent.

Experience:

• Awareness of modern software techniques and componentry such as Elasticsearch, Apache projects or equivalent preferred.
• Experience in a technology company preferred.

Responsibilities

• Working closely with business stakeholders to ensure delivered software fulfils the commercial and operational requirements of the business.
• Build knowledge across multiple functional domains and apply this learning to contributions toward SeaLink's technical architecture.
• Learn and apply modern techniques such as web-scale IT and data science & engineering in support of SeaLink's ongoing digital transformation.
• Working collaboratively with the development team leadership and IT colleagues, contribute to SeaLink's Software Development Process (SDP), including expansion and improvement of our delivery practices.

• Carry out programming, deployment and all other necessary technical delivery activities required to assure the sound implementation of timely and high-quality system changes within the remit of the role.
• Maintain high engineering standards by upholding continuous delivery, efficient and effective test practice, source control and codebase management.
• Apply problem-solving skills to the commercial opportunities and scenarios encountered by the business, with guidance from senior team members.
• Develop an understanding of the trade-offs in technology innovation versus managing divergent technologies
• Able to assess priorities to deliver a working product to agreed deadlines
• Ensure all delivered solutions are robust, scalable and instrumented in line with SeaLink's software engineering patterns, practises and strategy.
• Contribute to the maintenance of sub-systems of the technology stack
• Pursue continuous improvement, in the form of ongoing personal development and the application of ongoing productivity increase through the team and technology environment.

• Provide support to implementation activities in the form of technical troubleshooting, fault rectification, post-implementation verification, performance profiling and continuous optimisation of delivered solutions.
• Uphold non-functional and operational software requirements such as maintainability, availability and manageability of the technology solutions operated by IT.
• Contribute to or participate in SeaLink's second-level application support process.
• Engage with learning and knowledge sharing activities within the team
