The BMS Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and integration of advanced battery management systems for our client's innovative energy storage solutions. This role combines hardware and software expertise to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient battery operation, while supporting our client's mission of creating sustainable, repairable, and circular battery technologies.
What You’ll Do
You’ll be the kind of person who:
System Design & Development- Design, implement, and validate BMS hardware and firmware for lithium-ion and emerging battery chemistries.
- Develop control algorithms for cell balancing, charge/discharge management, and thermal regulation.
- Ensure compliance with international safety and performance standards (e.g., IEC, UL, UN38.3).
- Build and execute test plans for BMS functionality, safety, and reliability.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across hardware, firmware, and communication layers.
- Work with lab and field testing teams to validate BMS in real-world applications.
- Implement communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, RS485, etc.) for battery–inverter and battery–cloud connectivity.
- Collaborate with Vaulta’s IoT and analytics team to integrate predictive maintenance and monitoring features.
- Support integration into energy storage systems (residential, commercial, off-grid, mobility).
- Work closely with product design, manufacturing, and operations teams to ensure manufacturability and scalability.
- Provide technical support to installers, partners, and customers on BMS-related issues.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, standards, and emerging technologies in battery systems.
Requirements
What You Bring
We’re looking for someone who:
- Strong experience in battery management systems for lithium-ion or other advanced chemistries.
- Proficiency in embedded systems development (C/C++/Python).
- Knowledge of communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, RS485).
- Experience with circuit design, PCB layout, and power electronics.
- Familiarity with safety standards and regulatory compliance for energy storage systems.
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work across hardware/software interfaces.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with energy storage systems, EV batteries, or renewable energy integration.
- Knowledge of cloud/IoT integration for remote monitoring and diagnostics.
- Understanding of thermal management systems.
- Exposure to machine learning or data-driven optimization in battery performance.
