Public and Private Lighting Designer (Onsite)
Job Description:
- As a subject matter expert, take a lead role in providing professional public and private lighting advice, ensuring safety and quality outcomes for the company with high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Participate in Design Teams to ensure the timely and accurate design of innovative, cost-effective, and compliant design solutions and integrated designs and estimates for assigned public and private lighting projects, including associated public and private lighting studies.
- Participate in and support a Specialist Team, providing public and private lighting design consultancy services, ensuring coordination of multidisciplinary design production and liaison with key stakeholders, including impacted landowners, statutory authorities, government departments, industry partners, suppliers, customers, and council groups, to meet project design and estimate completion objectives.
- Provide expert technical advice to enable accurate project scope definition, approval estimates and balanced customer outcomes through collaboration with Energy Queensland, Powerlink Queensland, TMR, local councils, other authorities and clients during the project planning, feasibility options analysis, and concept phase.
- Develop, coach, and mentor the Design Team to deliver public and private lighting projects, including technical development, coaching, and training.
- Demonstrate a personal commitment to a safe work environment in all aspects of safe work behaviours and work practices; ensure all activities including site visits are performed following company policies and procedures, risk frameworks and legislative requirements; identifying and immediately rectifying unsafe work practices; recognising and promoting excellence in safety; and always looking for ways of continuous improvement and increase efficiencies of the business's' safe work practices.

- Comply with all relevant legislation, policies, procedures and practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, or any related field.
- Demonstrated expert technical knowledge and experience in the design principles, practices, construction, and maintenance required for public and private lighting installations.
- Demonstrated expert knowledge and experience in engineering calculations and analysis techniques relevant to the role, including using specialist software.
- Demonstrated expertise in investigating technical issues, problem-solving, and making effective decisions through sound judgment.
- Demonstrated expertise in recognising improvement opportunities, emerging technologies, and industry trends, participating in technical forums, and applying to assigned design projects as required.
- Demonstrated expertise and ability in information technology applications relevant to the work undertaken.
- Specialist knowledge of the safe design principles and safety requirements associated with the design of public lighting projects and associated plant & equipment, including sound knowledge of relevant Acts, Regulations, Codes of Practice and standards and their application to design.
- Advanced understanding of the Public Lighting Code Series AS/NZS1158 and all aspects of its application.
- Demonstrated understanding of electricity distribution design, construction, maintenance, and operation of underground and overhead mains and associated equipment.
- Well skilled in gathering field survey information to provide detailed road layout drawings and peg construction work using survey equipment.
- Skilled in producing detailed and complete road lighting and private lighting schemes and documentation, including accurate material and labour forecasts.
- Demonstrated leadership capability to prioritise and manage assigned tasks and activities to meet required targets.
