A Livestock Laborer is responsible for the daily care and handling of farm animals such as cattle, pigs, goats, poultry, and other livestock. The role involves feeding, watering, cleaning, monitoring animal health, maintaining barns or pens, and assisting in breeding or veterinary care as needed.The livestock laborer ensures the well-being and productivity of animals in accordance with animal welfare standards.
Qualifications/Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Feed and water animals according to scheduled routines.
- Monitor animal behavior and health and report any signs of illness or injury.
- Administer basic medications or supplements under supervision.
- Clean animal pens, barns, stables, and feeding equipment regularly.
- Remove manure and dispose of waste in a sanitary manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and order of the livestock facility.
- Assist in herding, moving, or restraining animals for treatment, shearing, or transport.
- Record data related to feeding, births, deaths, and health status.
- Monitor environmental conditions such as temperature, ventilation, and bedding.
- Operate basic farm machinery and tools for cleaning, feeding, or minor repairs.
- Assist in maintaining fencing, shelters, water systems, and other infrastructure.
- Assist during breeding procedures, birthing, weaning, and vaccinations.
- Help during meat, dairy, or egg harvesting (depending on farm type).
Qualifications:
- No formal education required.
- Completion of short courses or certifications in Animal Production or Agri-Fisheries (TESDA NC II) is a plus.
- Prior experience working with livestock or in a farm setting is preferred but not always required.
Requirements:
- Physically fit and capable of performing manual labor, including lifting, bending, and standing for long periods.
- Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of animal care, feeding routines, and safety practices.
- Comfortable working with animals of different sizes and temperaments.
- Able to follow instructions and adhere to biosecurity and hygiene protocols.
- Reliable, responsible, and willing to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays, depending on farm needs.
- Ability to work independently or in a team.
