An Agriculturist is responsible for providing technical assistance, conducting research, and implementing programs to improve agricultural productivity, sustainability, and food security. The role involves advising farmers and stakeholders, managing crop or livestock projects, promoting modern farming techniques, and ensuring compliance with agricultural regulations and standards.Agriculturists play a key role in developing rural economies, enhancing yields, and ensuring sustainable use of land and resources.
Qualifications/Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide expert advice to farmers and agricultural enterprises on crop management, soil health, pest control, fertilization, and sustainable farming practices.
- Recommend modern technologies and best practices to increase productivity and efficiency.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of agriculture-related government or private programs, including distribution of seeds, fertilizers, or financial aid.
- Monitor and evaluate agricultural projects, ensuring they meet intended goals and impact targets.
- Conduct field research, soil testing, and trials to identify suitable crops, methods, or inputs for specific areas.
- Analyze data and submit reports on productivity, pest outbreaks, or climate-related issues affecting crops or livestock.
- Organize and conduct seminars, workshops, and field demonstrations for farmers and community stakeholders.
- Promote awareness on organic farming, climate-smart agriculture, and post-harvest practices.
- Ensure compliance with agricultural laws, policies, and environmental regulations.
- Prepare and submit reports, documentation, and recommendations to supervisors or partner agencies.
- Coordinate with LGUs, DA offices, NGOs, and other institutions involved in agricultural development.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in agriculture, Agronomy, Horticulture, Animal Science, Soil Science, or a related field.
- Licensed Registered Agriculturist (RA) is preferred or required for most government roles in the Philippines.
- 1–3 years of experience in agricultural extension work, farm management, or project implementation is preferred but new graduates are welcome in some roles.
Requirements:
- Strong knowledge of agricultural science, crop and livestock management, and sustainable practices.
- Good analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and in the field, sometimes in rural or remote areas.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office and basic data collection tools.
- Physically fit and willing to travel frequently for fieldwork.
- Must be a team player with a passion for helping farmers and rural communities.
- Valid driver’s license is a plus for field-based roles.
