About the Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented and service-driven Payroll Professional to join our Staff Operations team. In this role, you will support the employee lifecycle through accurate and timely payroll processing, effective on‑boarding, and exceptional customer service for staff across Australia.You will play an essential part in ensuring compliance with legislative requirements while contributing to a positive employee experience.
Key Responsibilities- On‑Boarding & External Liaison
- Process and interpret recruitment data for Australian payrolls.
- Provide on‑boarding documentation including fringe benefits information.
- Transfer employee information accurately between systems.
- Action workflows in collaboration with payroll software providers, superannuation funds, workers compensation insurers, and other external partners.
- Process terminations and support exiting employees with required documentation (final payslips, separation certificates, etc.).
- Respond to written and verbal employee enquiries.
- Payroll Preparation & Processing
- Review and validate approved employee variations, timesheets, and leave forms.
- Ensure accuracy, eligibility, and timeliness of all payroll payments.
- Prepare and process fortnightly payroll for multiple entities.
- Calculate terminations and other one‑off payments.
- Process deductions and payments to outsourced packaging providers.
- Payroll Administration & Auditing
- Maintain payroll systems in partnership with payroll providers.
- Collaborate with the Payroll Systems Accountant to ensure accurate costing aligned with approved budgets.
- Maintain audit‑ready records including pay, employee, and leave documentation.
- Support regular audits and HRIS data integrity checks.
- Payroll Reporting
- Prepare payroll reports for PAYG, tax balancing, FBT, workers compensation, and other payroll-related obligations.
- Prepare regulatory reports including ATO, PAYG, and Superannuation reporting.
- Supply accurate data for management reporting.
- Employee & Leader Support
- Provide training and assistance on Employee Self‑Service (ESS) systems.
- Respond to enquiries from department leaders, external agencies, and government bodies.
- Participate in conferences and events as required.
- Ensure compliance with Work Health & Safety and Child Safety policies, creating a safe environment for all employees and volunteers.
Skills & Experience
Required- Tertiary qualifications or relevant experience in HR, Payroll, Accounting, or Business.
- Strong mathematics, communication, and customer service skills.
- Experience handling confidential and sensitive information.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, particularly Excel.
- Experience using payroll or accounting software.
- Ability to coach staff and provide clear rationale for decisions.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of Australian awards, payroll legislation, and regulatory instruments.
- Experience with business partnering or customer support functions.
- Understanding of data integrity and compliance within HR/Payroll environments.
