3D Character Artist
A game art and creative production company is seeking a 3D Character Artist to create high-quality 3D characters, creatures, and character-related assets for game projects across different genres and platforms.
This role involves modeling, UV mapping, texturing, polishing, and preparing assets according to client specifications, quality standards, timelines, and production requirements. The successful candidate should be capable of handling complex character assets, working efficiently under production deadlines, and supporting the team through quality reviews, work planning, and guidance to junior artists when needed.
Key Responsibilities
The 3D Character Artist will work closely with the project lead to understand client requirements, clarify specifications, gather references, and define the best approach for creating character assets. The role requires careful planning before production begins, including setting daily work targets, identifying asset requirements, and flagging any ambiguity around scope, quality expectations, or timelines.
The position is responsible for creating, UV mapping, and texturing 3D characters, creatures, and related assets while ensuring they meet approved technical and artistic standards. The artist will be expected to work on complex assets, follow established production processes, and deliver high-quality work with minimal rework or quality control issues.
When required, the artist may polish or complete assets initially created by junior artists, helping bring them up to final delivery quality. The role may also include preparing assets for post-production or game engine use, including checking assets in-engine when applicable.
The role also supports productivity and delivery by estimating effort, breaking down work efficiently, and helping other artists complete assigned tasks using effective tools, methods, and workflows. The 3D Character Artist may assist the lead with first-level asset reviews, work planning, and supervision of junior artists when needed.
The successful candidate is expected to communicate regularly with leads and project managers regarding work progress, project risks, planned leaves, issues affecting delivery, and potential solutions. The role requires strong ownership, professionalism, openness to feedback, and the ability to contribute positively to team performance and project success.
Qualifications & Experience
The ideal candidate has at least 2 years of experience in a 3D game production, game art, or game art services environment, with hands-on experience as a 3D Artist or Senior Artist.
Candidates should have strong knowledge of the 3D game character creation process, including modeling, UV mapping, and texturing under production conditions. Experience with both organic and inorganic modeling is required, along with the ability to create assets that meet client requirements, deadlines, and quality expectations.
Strong working knowledge of industry-standard tools such as Maya, 3ds Max, ZBrush, and Photoshop is required. Familiarity with additional tools such as Substance Painter, Mudbox, Marvelous Designer, and experience preparing or exporting assets for game engines such as Unreal Engine is an advantage.
The role requires the ability to estimate, plan, and support the execution of game art asset creation work. Candidates should be organized, self-managed, quality-focused, and able to maintain realistic daily goals while consistently delivering assigned work on time.
Strong communication skills are important, including the ability to clearly ask project-related questions, provide work status updates, explain asset delivery notes, and document comments or feedback. The candidate should be able to communicate effectively in English with cross-functional and international team members.
The successful candidate should demonstrate professionalism, reliability, initiative, and team credibility. They should be open to feedback, willing to support junior artists, able to manage stress in production environments, and capable of contributing to team success through both individual delivery and collaborative support.
