Solar Design Engineer

Reports To: Head of Engineering / Solar Design Manager

About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Solar Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of commercial and industrial photovoltaic (PV) systems. This role is responsible for producing compliant, high-quality PV designs, conducting system simulations, and providing technical support across project teams in accordance with Australian Standards.

• Prepare Construction Management Plan (CMP) and detailed PV system designs using AutoCAD.
• Perform system design simulations and technical assessments using Helioscope, CablePro, and JCalc (Powercad and PVsyst experience is an advantage).
• Conduct cable sizing, voltage drop calculations, and energy yield analysis.
• Ensure compliance with relevant Australian Standards (AS/NZS) and DNSP service rules.
• Review and interpret product specifications for inverters, modules, batteries, and BOS components.
• Provide technical support to Sales, Construction, and O&M teams.
• Review civil and architectural drawings and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate design documentation and provide regular progress updates.
• Strong willingness to learn and develop expertise in Australian Standards and compliance requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience in PV system design (commercial/industrial preferred).
• Strong working knowledge of Australian PV and electrical standards is an advantage.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD; experience with SketchUp is highly regarded.
• Hands-on experience with Helioscope and electrical calculation tools.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Experience with battery energy storage systems (BESS) is an advantage.
• Experience working on Australian solar projects is an advantage.
