Financial Accountant (Onsite, AU Accounting Exp)

Job Description:

Group Financial Reporting:

  • Prepare and assist with the review of consolidated group financial reports, including monthly management accounts, manufacturer reporting submissions and analytical reporting covering debtors, stock, WIP, cash flow and other key financial metrics.
  • Support the National Finance Manager in ensuring reporting is accurate, timely and provides meaningful financial insights.

Technical Accounting & Financial Controls:

  • Provide technical accounting guidance across the group, ensuring compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and internal accounting policies.
  • Review complex balance sheet reconciliations, intercompany balances, control accounts and key transactional areas including creditors, inventory, fixed assets and cash management.
  • Investigate accounting discrepancies and provide recommendations for resolution.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of month-end journals, accruals, provisions and other complex accounting entries.

Statutory Compliance:

  • Support the preparation and review of statutory obligations including BAS, IAS, payroll tax, FBT, superannuation and other regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Maintain compliance calendars and assist State Finance Managers in meeting statutory deadlines while ensuring adherence to accounting and tax requirements.

Year-End & External Audit:

  • Coordinate the preparation of year-end financial statements and audit working papers.
  • Lead the preparation of technical accounting schedules including:
  • Intercompany eliminations
  • Lease accounting (AASB 16)
  • Depreciation
  • Leave provisions
  • Stock provisions and valuation
  • Fixed asset reconciliations
  • Prior year adjustments
  • Act as the primary technical contact for external auditors and coordinate audit requests in partnership with the National Finance Manager.

Finance Team Support:

  • Provide technical accounting support to the National Finance Manager and State Finance Managers on complex accounting matters.
  • Assist with month-end close activities across multiple entities and provide guidance on accounting treatment, reconciliations and financial reporting requirements.
  • Support Finance Managers during peak reporting periods and leave coverage where required.

Systems & Continuous Improvement:

  • Identify opportunities to improve financial reporting, accounting processes and internal controls.
  • Support enhancements across ERP, DMS and BI reporting platforms to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Assist with finance projects, system implementations and process automation initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Commerce.
  • Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or working towards professional certification.
  • 5+ years of experience in financial accounting, group reporting or technical accounting, ideally within a multi-entity environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems, DMS platforms and BI reporting tools.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards, financial reporting, statutory compliance, external audit processes, BAS, FBT, payroll tax and management accounting principles.
  • Experience preparing consolidated financial statements is a plus.
  • Experience with manufacturer financial reporting portals is a plus.
  • High attention to detail, analytical mindset, strong organisational skills, ability to manage competing priorities and a proactive approach to continuous improvement.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical accounting concepts to finance and non-finance stakeholders.
