Lathe Machine Operator

Job Summary: The Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining lathe machines to produce precision metal parts. This role requires a keen understanding of machine operation, the ability to interpret technical drawings, and a commitment to producing high-quality components.

Responsibilities:

Machine Setup:

• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and specifications to understand the machining requirements.
• Set up and configure lathe machines, including selecting and installing appropriate tooling.
• Ensure that machines are calibrated and in proper working order.

Material Preparation:

• Select and load raw materials (metal bars, rods, or billets) into the lathe machine.
• Secure materials in the machine, using appropriate fixtures and clamping devices.
• Verify that the material dimensions and specifications match the job requirements.

Operation:

• Operate the lathe machine to cut, shape, and finish metal components according to specified tolerances.
• Monitor machine operations to ensure that products meet quality standards.
• Make adjustments to the machine settings as needed for different projects.

Quality Control:

• Perform regular quality checks on machined parts using precision measuring instruments.
• Inspect finished products for accuracy, surface finish, and adherence to specifications.
• Identify and address any issues that may affect the quality of the finished product.

Tool Maintenance:

• Monitor tool wear and replace cutting tools as necessary to maintain quality and efficiency.
• Perform routine maintenance on the lathe machine, including lubrication and cleaning.
• Report any equipment malfunctions or maintenance needs to the supervisor.

Safety Compliance:

• Adhere to safety guidelines and protocols while operating the lathe machine.
• Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
• Participate in safety training programs and contribute to a safe working environment.

Documentation:

• Maintain accurate records of machine settings, tool changes, and production output.
• Document any deviations from the production plan and the actions taken to address them.
• Complete production reports and job logs as required.

Qualifications:

• Vocational, Technical Education, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience as a lathe machine operator in a manufacturing or machining environment.
• Knowledge of lathe machine operation, tooling, and materials.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and blueprints.
• Familiarity with precision measuring instruments, such as micrometers and calipers.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and lift heavy materials.
• Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment.
