Key Duties and Responsibilities:

Fuel Consumption & Technical Budget Monitoring:

  • Fuel and Lubricants Tracking: Monitor fuel and lubricant consumption through regular reports from the SERTICA automated system, ensuring fuel rates are aligned with targets.
  • Budget Oversight: Oversee technical budgets, including the allocation for maintenance, repairs, refits, spare parts, lubricants, chemicals, and consumables.
  • Daily Monitoring: Regular checks on vessel conditions and fuel/lubricant levels, ensuring proper consumption tracking at each port arrival.
  • Monthly Clean-Up: Oversee monthly fuel consumption reports and clean-up of budget discrepancies.

Vessel Readiness, Safety, and Condition:

  • Vessel Performance: Ensure all vessels are in full technical readiness, optimizing performance and fulfilling service commitments.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Oversee vessel certifications, including regular surveys, inspections, and compliance with the International Safety Management (ISM) Code, maritime legislation, and flag state requirements.
  • Safety Best Practices: Promote safety standards and safe working practices, ensuring that vessel operations adhere to industry best practices.
  • Communication: Act as the principal point of contact between ship and shore staff, providing regular updates on technical issues that impact vessel availability.
  • Emergency Response: Lead technical expertise during emergency situations, ensuring quick and effective responses.

Dry Docking Management:

  • Dry Dock Cost Management: Ensure dry docking projects are completed within the agreed-upon budget and timeline. Address cost discrepancies through effective negotiation or dispute resolution.
  • Repair Supervision: Closely monitor the repair works during dry dock, ensuring timely completion and minimal disruption.
  • Additional Work Evaluation: Assess and implement any additional work that may arise during dry docking. Ensure that any adjustments to the schedule do not affect the target completion date.
  • Compliance with Class Requirements: Ensure that all dry docking activities comply with third-party classification society recommendations and maritime standards.
  • Tracking and Reporting: Weekly monitoring of the dry dock's percentage completion, monthly reviews of machinery conditions, and validation of invoices and work completed by the shipyard.

Vessel Workforce Monitoring:

  • Crew Management: Conduct interviews during hiring, provide crew orientation, and oversee the disciplinary process for incidents.
  • Team Leadership: Lead multi-functional teams, contributing to HR processes such as recruitment, performance management, and crew evaluation.
  • Crew Performance: Conduct quarterly crew evaluations to ensure that personnel meet operational standards.

Vessel Maintenance & Compliance:

  • Maintenance Oversight: Ensure the timely and efficient completion of vessel maintenance tasks, addressing any critical issues or breakdowns.
  • Weekly Monitoring: Track the condition of vessels, including downtime and maintenance requirements, in coordination with the captain and chief engineer.
  • Inspections & Surveys: Perform quarterly inspections of the vessel's condition, participate in annual class surveys, and ensure compliance with certification requirements.
  • Flag State Compliance: Monitor the vessel’s compliance with flag state requirements and update certifications as necessary.

Educational Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Maritime, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Preferably, candidates should hold certifications such as a 2nd Engineer license, Mechanical Engineering license, or Naval Architecture license.

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in ship management, dry docking, ship repair, or vessel overhauls.
  • Experience with fleet management, maintenance programs, and technical oversight of vessels is essential.

  • Excellent organizational skills, able to manage both soft and hard copy documents efficiently.

  • Experience in overseeing complex technical projects and ensuring timely completion.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with both ship and shore-based teams.
  • Proven leadership skills, capable of leading diverse teams and handling operational challenges.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining high operational standards.
