Build and Lead a New Mining Venture from the Ground Up
A privately held Philippine holding group is launching a new mining venture in Mindanao and is looking for a highly experienced General Manager – Mining Ventures to lead the project from early-stage development to full operations.
This is a rare opportunity for a seasoned mining professional who wants more than a regular management position. You will have the chance to build the venture, shape the team, lead the operating strategy, work directly with the principal, and participate in the long-term upside through equity or profit-share.
We are looking for a hands-on leader who understands Philippine mining realities — from permitting, Minahang Bayan, government coordination, community engagement, and field operations to production, compliance, and commercial execution.
This role is ideal for someone who wants ownership, authority, and the opportunity to help build a serious, long-term mining platform.
Why This Opportunity Is Different
This is not just another General Manager post.
The selected candidate will be joining at the most important stage of the venture — the beginning. You will help shape the project’s regulatory path, stakeholder strategy, operating model, team structure, and long-term growth plan.
You will be backed by a well-capitalized principal and supported by an experienced shared-services platform covering legal, finance, HR, treasury, and corporate affairs.
For the right mining operator, this role offers:
- Real decision-making authority
- Direct access to the principal
- Equity or profit-share participation
- Opportunity to build your own operating team
- Long-term growth and expansion potential
- A chance to lead a venture with strong sponsor support
- Lead the regulatory and permitting pathway, including Minahang Bayan, Small-Scale Mining Permit, MPSA, Exploration Permit, FTAA, or other applicable mining structures.
- Coordinate with DENR-MGB, LGUs, Provincial/City Mining Regulatory Boards, NCIP, and other relevant government agencies.
- Support FPIC processes where ancestral domain considerations apply.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with LGUs, host communities, barangay officials, small-scale mining groups, cooperatives, and local stakeholders.
- Negotiate and formalize community agreements, royalty arrangements, cooperative structures, and contractor arrangements.
- Define and implement the operating model for the venture, including in-house mining, tolling, contractor-based, cooperative-based, or hybrid operations.
- Source, hire, and lead the operating team, including geology, mine engineering, milling, safety, environmental, community relations, security, finance, and admin personnel.
- Ensure environmental, health, safety, and regulatory compliance, including ECC, SDMP, SHES, tailings, effluent management, and mine safety requirements.
- Establish the commercial side of the operation, including gold buying, mineral trading, processing partners, and export structures where applicable.
- Own the P&L and meet production, cost, compliance, and cash flow targets.
- Manage royalties, excise taxes, LGU shares, IP royalties, and community obligations properly and on time.
- Identify expansion opportunities, adjacent claims, and additional mineral prospects as the venture grows.
- Minimum of five (5) years of direct Philippine mining experience.
- Strong background in small-scale and/or medium-scale mining operations.
- Hands-on knowledge of Minahang Bayan, RA 7076, Small-Scale Mining Permit, and related mining regulations.
- Working knowledge of MPSA, Exploration Permit, FTAA, or other large-scale mining structures is an advantage.
- Direct gold operations experience is required.
- Copper and polymetallic experience is strongly preferred.
- Familiarity with chromite, nickel, or other base metals is a plus.
- Strong network with MGB, DENR, NCIP, LGUs, PMRB/CMRB, and mining communities, especially in Mindanao.
- Proven experience in stakeholder negotiation, community engagement, and government liaison.
- Strong leadership, commercial, operational, and problem-solving skills.
- Must be willing to travel and work in Mindanao as required.
- Mining Engineer, Geologist, or Metallurgical Engineer with PRC license is preferred.
- Candidates with strong field experience and proven operating track record may also be considered.
- Must have a clean regulatory and reputational record.
Who Will Succeed in This Role
You will be a strong fit if you are:
- A builder, not just a maintainer.
- Comfortable working with government agencies, LGUs, communities, and mining groups.
- Strong in both field execution and management reporting.
- Able to lead through ambiguity and early-stage project challenges.
- Disciplined in safety, environmental, legal, and community compliance.
- Commercially minded and able to manage budgets, production targets, costs, and timelines.
- Professional, discreet, and trusted in handling confidential project information.
- Motivated by long-term ownership, growth, and performance-based upside.
- Competitive executive compensation package.
- Meaningful equity or profit-share opportunity.
- Full support from a well-capitalized principal.
- Direct access to decision-makers.
- Group shared-services support for legal, finance, HR, treasury, and corporate affairs.
- Opportunity to build and lead a new mining venture from the ground up.
- Long-term leadership role with strong growth and expansion potential.
- A rare opportunity to move from operator to true owner-operator.
