Job Overview:
The Assistant Management Accountant plays a crucial role in the financial control and continuous improvement of accounting processes within the organization. This position supports month-end reporting, audits, budgeting, and statutory compliance, contributing directly to informed business decisions and overall financial health.The role requires strong technical accounting skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities under strict deadlines.
Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare accurate financial reports and compile monthly management accounts to strict deadlines
- Support the preparation and submission of annual budgets
- Perform daily cash book processing and reconciliation
- Record monthly journals including accruals, prepayments, and depreciation
- Reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly
- Submit quarterly VAT returns and ensure compliance with UK GAAP
- Liaise with external auditors and statutory bodies, including HMRC
- Maintain and develop relationships with auditors and regulatory contacts
- Stay updated on changes in financial regulations and legislation
- Assist in internal audits and support year-end financial processes
- Perform other ad-hoc accounting duties as required by management
- Report financial risks and ensure all operations align with company health, safety, and environmental policies
Qualifications:
- AAT Level 4 qualification or equivalent (required)
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an accounting role
- Strong understanding of UK GAAP and VAT compliance
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Excel
- Mandatory DBS check
- Completed training in OH&S Essentials, Slips, Trips & Falls, and Manual Handling (or willingness to complete)
- Willingness to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends when required
