The Qualifications We Seek
Education & Experience- Bachelor's degree in Construction or Engineering preferred (relevant experience considered)
- Minimum of 5 years of estimating experience in civil, structural, and architectural disciplines
- Fieldwork experience and confidence in heavy industrial environments required
Skills & Abilities:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), AGTEK software, SAGE Estimating Software, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, REVIT, On-Screen Takeoff, or similar tools
- Skilled in all estimating processes including Sub vs Self Perform analysis, proposal analysis, estimate closeout procedures, and risk identification
- Capable of managing a complete estimate for moderately sized projects under supervision
- Experienced in mentoring and training estimators and estimating engineers
- Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Competent in completing quantity takeoffs for estimate preparation
- Knowledgeable in cost-based risk analysis
- Able to manage and direct junior estimating staff during project pursuits
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Effective at multitasking and meeting critical deadlines
- Reliable, with a strong sense of discretion and confidentiality
- Excellent time management and organizational abilities
- Understanding of construction concepts, methodology, and techniques
- Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail
- Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents, blueprints, and project plans
- Skilled in developing and maintaining vendor and subcontractor relationships
- Demonstrate commitment to the Safety and Health Management Program by incorporating required safety measures into prepared estimates
- Develop full-scope cost estimates as part of a team based on proposal documentation for various bid-build and design-build projects
- Interpret and analyze project drawings, specifications, proposals, and related documentation
- Perform accurate and detailed quantity takeoffs from project drawings and specifications
- Develop detailed cost estimates for self-perform work elements
- Set up and maintain estimate files in estimating software and associated pursuit-specific databases
- Manage estimate comparisons including quantity comparison, cost analysis, and project closeout
- Assist in creating initial project execution and logistics plans, and support schedule development with the Senior Estimator and Project Superintendent
- Participate in design task forces and proposal development for Design/Build pursuits
- Identify, solicit, and analyze subcontractor and vendor proposals
- Conduct peer reviews of takeoffs and cost estimates prepared by estimating staff
- Support the maintenance of estimating databases
- Assist in procuring major materials and subcontracts for awarded projects
- Perform research on means and methods, materials, equipment, costs, construction techniques, and services to improve competitiveness
