Senior Accountant (Private Practice)

Position Overview

The Senior Accountant will play a key role in managing client portfolios, delivering compliance and advisory services, and mentoring junior staff within the practice. This position requires strong technical accounting knowledge, excellent communication skills, and the ability to build lasting client relationships.

• Manage a portfolio of clients, including SMEs, sole traders, partnerships, and trusts.
• Prepare and review financial statements, tax returns, BAS, IAS, FBT, and payroll compliance.
• Provide tax planning, structuring advice, and business advisory services.
• Conduct financial analysis to identify opportunities for clients to optimise performance and cash flow.
• Ensure compliance with ATO, ASIC, and other regulatory bodies.
• Mentor and review the work of junior accountants, providing technical support and feedback.
• Manage workflow and ensure timely delivery of client services.
• Liaise directly with clients, handling queries and building strong working relationships.
• Support practice growth through identifying advisory opportunities and contributing to business development.

Experience & Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
• CPA or CA qualification (or in final stages).
• Minimum 4–6 years’ experience in public practice accounting.
• Strong knowledge of Australian accounting standards, tax legislation, and compliance requirements.
• Demonstrated ability to manage client relationships independently.
• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Xero, MYOB, QuickBooks, APS, or similar).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organisational skills.

• Experience reviewing and supervising junior staff.
• Exposure to advisory services such as business structuring, cash flow management, or succession planning.
• Experience in working with a broad range of industries and client sizes.
